After playing 120 matches, I have an ELO score of 400 with a 44% win rate.

Is this a typical result or am I doing something wrong?

I tend to have trouble in the later stages of the game.

My feudal time is 11:00 with 25 villagers, castle time is 19:00, and industrial age is 35:00.

Watching pros and T90 will give you loads of insights.

    Also it’s called « imperial age » 😉

I’d say you’re clicking up to Feudal with too many vils, you usually want 21 +- 2 for most build orders.

You should end up with about 100-160 vils in Imp, depending on what you’re doing, and the rest should be military.

I think the issue is the industrial age.

    Try imperial instead.

Most people dont even get past the initial barrier of starting to play ranked.

So, u r well ahead of a lot of people.

As for myself i have not yet crossed that barrier too.

I enjoy my team games though and i am not v bad.

Maybe just a tad bit 100-200 above your elo.

Or maybe i am about your elo.

I dont know cuz i dont play 1v1’s at all.

You’re only missing something when you don’t have fun.

Dont get caught up by quantifications.

with 25 villagers u click feudal min 11 or do u arrive feudal?

because its literally imposible in RM settings to reach feudal min 11:00 with 25 villagers, even if u dont have loom.

    26 pop ( 25 vils+1 scout) without loom timing its arriving 11:20

EDIT: with generic vil production civs so not persians, malay, khmer, etc

There is no normal elo, that number is only to assure you have a competitive game with someone close to your skill level.

You can improve by learning new things if you want that number to rise but in the end it still be a competitive game with someone close to your skill level no matter the elo.

What is not normal is to think you are lower than you should be and be mad by losing points, you will met a lot of people like this if you start climbing

Usually one does not simply learn by playing and playing.

This is also true for basically any other game and skill in life.

Practice is important in order to improve, but it has to be relevant practice: if you always do the same and don’t try to identify mistakes and learn from them or try new things it’s useless practice.

Additionally, it usually helps to add external info: sure, you can self learn everything but many people who know more than you has shared their knowledge, so why not help yourself.

Youtube, reddit, etc are your friends here.

You could play 10.000 games and stay in 400 elo if you don’t actively try to improve.

This said, are you having fun?

Do you want to invest the effort in learning how to get more virtual internet points?

If the answer is yes and no respectively, that’s absolutely fine!

Have fun in the 400 elo region where you will be allowed to do many things that would be instantly punished in higher elos.

If learning on your own bu trial and error is what you want, that’s also fine.

Of course, learning is also fun and rewarding in itself and it also allows you to move into more strategically deep stuff, which is also rewarding, so if that’s what you want to do then *just* number of games played is not a good metric.

As I said this applies to any skill and game in life, not just aoe!

Practice needs to be effective and not empty practice in order to improve.

But in a game you have to decide if you just want to play and have fun or if you actively want to invest effort to improve.

It’s a choice and both are perfectly ok.

Let me also add that in complex games like chess or aoe there is no upper limit in the effort you can invest, because the game is so complex that you cannot know everything, so you set your own limit.

Game could use the option “Show Player Ratings – Yes/No”.

Well I can tell you one thing the reason why u have low Elo is not because of ur age-up times.

I am ~830 Elo and I reach Feudal age with 22 vills @ 11-12 min (with avg 90 sec of idle tc).

Your feudal time is pretty solid, actually insane for a 400 Elo player.

I go full military as soon as I reach feudal.

Harass the opponent enough & then worry about castle age after 🙂

You are either too passive with your military, don’t have enough production buildings, not creating enough military or don’t know the usual counters to units.

That being said if you enjoy the game why worry about Elo it’s pointless.

    Just have fun 🙂
