Should Gurjaras Stop Practicing Husbandry?

Currently, the civilization with the highest win rate (54.30%) has some overwhelmingly one-sided matchups due to their Shrivansha Riders and powerful Camels.

To address this, some people have suggested reducing the speed of the Shrivansha Riders, which could be a step in the right direction.

However, I think removing Husbandry would be a better solution.

This would make the Shrivansha Riders less oppressive while still keeping them speedy, and the Camels would be less powerful than Knights with Husbandry, but still good.

Additionally, their Hussar spam would become weaker, creating a weakness in their late game that currently only exists when they are facing double gold compositions or feudal aggression.

While a civilization without Husbandry isn’t unheard of, it wouldn’t automatically create a losing matchup because they wouldn’t be as vulnerable to Cavalry Archers.

54% win rate is fine, and far from OP.

Franks have sat comfortably at ~55% win rate for fucking years and are literally picked twice as often as the next most common civ, yet they remain basically the same.

I’m just happy to see some cav counter civs actually be useful.

I don’t get why Gurjaras should get Hussar, when Shrivamsha Riders play a similar role.

That should already balance things out a bit more in the late game at least.

They have a 52.88% WR at 1300+ after the nerfs on arabia, the 6th best civ, they don’t really need a nerf.

Teutons don’t have auto lose matchups, that’s a meme.

Because it’s completely against their identity imo

Camels being slightly faster than knights is an important part of their ability to counter knights, as compared to pikes.

Taking away husbandry takes away the power of camels to force fights.

I agree the Shrivamsha are a problem but removing husbandry will affect all cav units as well as, more importantly, elephant units.

If they just got rid of the dodge mechanic and just had it as shock cavalry I think it would be fine.

Because it’s not related to why the units are problems.

Lower the attack rate of Shrivamsha riders.

Raiding is about disruption, not how big your impact is.

The riders cross the line into being OP because their shield makes them very good at raiding, their relatively high attack rate (in comparison to light cav) makes them have a big raiding impact.

You could even lower their attack by 1 or 2 and they’d still be great units, because they’re really good at running around and not dying.

The camels vs horses is a fundamental game problem and honestly should be changed, there’s very little historical basis for it and it’s very limiting from a design perspective.

Many civs have some form of anti-calvary calvary, but they’re not camels, so they don’t get implemented.

Personally, I think that’s something that might or might not work, and would have been worth a shot last patch.

But now I’m running out of patience and would love to see a hard nerf to the Matrix riders, instead of another “maybe it work’s” change and that might mean the civ is still broken for the next months.

It would be a mayor nerf to the entire civ as you can no longer force fights with most cavalry civs.

Teutons are a good example of this, while their paladins are great against other melee units, they can neither force fights and are much weaker against cav archers.

I do agree that Gurjaras are oppressive, Shrivamsha’s are one of the main reasons as they invalidate too many things.

How about reducing the Shrivamsha speed to be equal to Light Cavalry?

That way most civilizations have a unit that can catch them.
