Usually seems like tunnel vision is the biggest thing holding back elo.
Focus on eco, start attacking and forget eco.
It’s a tale as old as AOE.

build orders and hotkeys
February 1, 2023 at 10:11 am #7539Sideways_X1GuestI’m in a similar boat, but haven’t nearly enough games to talk.
Would love to play a couple though and could cast over the games.
I think a lot of the advice on the post applies to me.
Took me too long to recognize what a clean DA means.
Obviously I’m not there.
Coming back from 20 years ago I’m finding I’m getting worse as I restructure my build orders and re-assign hotkeys.
TC idle time, hot keys, and shift clicking to minimize villy idle time are where I’m trying to focus.
Tightening up build orders is a to-do as well, but I’m not sure how much my problem is build order or idle time…
February 1, 2023 at 10:11 am #7538Drown_The_GodsGuestWith dark ages, there is clean and there is *clean*.
No idle time is one thing, but always having the correct vills doing the right things and no ‘hidden’ idles, supporting an ELO-appropriate targeted build playing your strength against your opponent’s weakness, with efficient and safe lumber camps/mines, perfect food timings, efficient scouting, adaptability, and probably a load of stuff me as an 1100 ELO doesn’t ever think about.
*Pros* don’t get this stuff right all the time.
And actually…don’t sweat the dark age *too* much at 800 ELO.
I play some people at my ELO who have awful dark ages who still stomp me if I don’t overwhelm them early because they are civ experts or late game specialists or have insane micro.
Maybe you have awful castle age transitions, or a thousand other things.
Would also love to see a rec!

If you want an idea of probably why you’re struggling / unable to progress

Is a pretty good guide of where people get stuck in each rating.
February 1, 2023 at 10:11 am #7536Economy_Snow_165GuestWatching your most recent loss.
Just keep making villagers.
You did a lot of things great.
Your forward was working.
But you idled your tc the whole time
February 1, 2023 at 10:11 am #7535Scoo_ByGuestFirst – try to have a no idle dark age, which is easier said than done.
Pick a bo, preferably scout rush.
Pick a civ that can do a good scout rush and try to get better at it.
Do not push deer.
Scout your map – you need to find 3 gold, 2 stone, 4 sheep and 2 boars.
Second – switch to 2 stable knights in castle age.
Check survivalist’s heroku app for how many vils on food/gold you need for constant 2 stable knight production.
Aim for 21-22 mins castle age.
When you arrive at opponent base, prioritize killing vils.
I guarantee, you will be 1k elo in a week if you follow this.
If that somehow fails, go 3 tc boom for 5 stable knight spam.
February 1, 2023 at 10:11 am #7534Luki63GuestHonestly probably most of your problems come from bad macro.
Try cicero’s build order mod and play one until you get an A.
That will clean up your dark age and fuedal age tremendously.
Also set up your hotkeys so you never have to click the bottom left panel.
February 1, 2023 at 10:11 am #7533Unholy_LilithGuestDo you have fun playing where you are?
Then you shouldn’t care about elo, you get matches with similar opponents anyway.
For getting better the first things should be:
* Hotkeys
* Following some BOs in dark age
* Doing the BO as clean as possibleThat alone should get you at least 200 elo higher.
After that, focusing more on army could ge a good thing (using them, attacking early, getting used to attack while still managing eco…)
