Over the last week, the writer has encountered several instances in which their opponents have removed pauses without warning during ranked 1v1 and team games.
The writer suggests implementing a “time out” or minimum pause option to rectify the issue.
They have experienced situations where they have had to be away from the game for a minute and have returned to find the game unpaused, resulting in a pause/unpause battle while trying to explain their absence.
The writer is unsure if this is a trend or just their bad luck.
They have clarified that they often pause due to lag and that it is not always them who requires the pause.
Despite their attempts to communicate the need for a pause, opponents immediately remove it, causing frustration.
The writer has received sarcastic replies from some individuals who do not believe pausing should be allowed at all, indicating a divided opinion on the matter.
I have a disease where I shit all the time with no warning.
I’d play online more if i could just ask the opponent on discord to pause
For me pausing depends on my mood.
As someone who has played league of legend for a long time I rarely pause.
It also depends on when someone needs a pause.
A pause as soon as game starts I would give you a min max.
If mid game or late game I’ll let you pause up to 5 min.
Any pause where you pause and you do not type something will be cancelled in 10 seconds.
If I am in a bad mood no pauses for you 11.
To me a pause is something that must be agreed by both player so I don’t have any reason to let you take a pause other than my kindness. 11
2 days ago my mouse ran out of battery.
I immediately explained the situation in a 4v4 match:
“Guys I need 45 sec gotta change battery of mouse”
I did my errand it took roughly 40-50 secs as I knew where my extra battery was and when I came back the game was still on pause.
I felt really embarrassed as I was ready to curse any potential unpausers.
Compliments to those 7 kindhearted people from here, who gave up their 40~ seconds of gameplay to allow their opponent to continue the game on equal terms.
I think the key point here is describing the amount of time required and the reason for pause.
I had a game where the doorbell went so I paused.
Immediate unpause.
I pause again and type 30secs door.
Immediate unpause.
I type ok GG and resign.
He goes “hahaha really?” I go answer the door and come back to keyboard rage messages.
I requeue.
This is confusing behaviour from a mentally unstable individual.
No obligation to honour the pause but ill just resign if you don’t.
Up to you if puntos matter more than the game.
For me, winning points by this method just makes the next game harder!
If i find pauses annoying i resign

If you have to pause, out of courtesy, type first and then pause.
It pisses me off that someone pauses the game and no one knows what is happening.
You’re killing other player’s tempo when pausing.
I will 100% immediately unpause if you don’t let others know beforehand.
Name any game that your opponent can randomly pause in the middle of a ranked game, I think it’s ridiculous and should be removed.
I immediately unpause unless my opponent explains why he needs to pause 2-3 times in a 20 minute game
If someone pauses without saying anything, I’ll unpause after a couple minutes.
You have to communicate how much time you need.
If its more than 5 mins, sorry but no.

Your fellow players did not consent to a game that has long or multiple pauses.
If you pause and say nothing, unpause.
Don’t assume people have time to wait for you.
When u pause in dota, enemy team can unpause after 2 mins i think and your team can unpause instantly.
Theres also rule, that u can pause once every 5 mins or something so theres little way to ruin games with pausing/unpausing.
I think something similar should be in aoe too.
This is an issue we’re already tracking, the pauses should be limited to X times, but it’s broken right now.

It really baffles me that people in this thread prefer the opponent to resign instead of waiting 1-2min for them to solve whatever prompted the pausing.
Queueing again will most often than not take longer and you are telling me you prefer the match to end at the 10min mark because someone knocked on the door instead of fucking waiting for 1 min?
Even if you are a prick, do you think that is a better solution?
Do it for yourself if you can’t do it for your opponent.
Obviously, Im talking about pauses where the one who paused will explain how long the pause will take.
