I recently competed in a ranked 1v1 game and my ELO was 915, but I lost and it decreased to 902.

After the game, I found out that my opponent’s ELO was 971, which was a 50 ELO difference.

This was higher than I expected.

Does anyone know how much higher or lower than your ELO the matchmaking system will pair you up with?

It depends on how many people are in the queue at the time.

I’m confused why you think this is a big gap– you had a 42% chance to win based on your elos, that is a really close matchup ([https://sandhoefner.github.io/chess.html](https://sandhoefner.github.io/chess.html)).

It is more a problem at the top end of the bell curve where guys like Hera who are 2700 don’t have anyone close to their elo in queue.

    50 elo is basically nothing.

the difference between a good day and a bad day can be more than 100…
