So the upgrade offers you +1 assault and 20 hp, 0 bonus assault, and nothing else for rather an dear upgrade. I feel at the least it could well in reality come up with 1/1 armor, or plus 4 bonus assault? or lower it by a predominant amount.

Increases bonus effort in opposition to cavalry. But I agree, it’s no longer a big unit. Which is becoming for a civ that isn’t any longer effectively-designed.
