My wife and I have been attempting to outplay two difficult AI opponents, but it has proven to be an impossible task.
We commenced the game with a strong Feudal Age start, constructing walls and armies within eight to fifteen minutes.
Despite our best efforts, the enemy always manages to outplay us with double the strength of our forces.
We can usually beat one hard AI, but two is beyond our capabilities.
Do you have any advice or strategies that could help us?
February 5, 2023 at 6:59 pm #9575VelcomeToCinderGuestWell few ideas.
Harass AI in Feudal Age with archers or scouts, maybe even with militia in Dark Age.
Castle age is too late to start producing army, unless you were going to start spamming knights the moment you hit castle age and if AI spend feudal age making archers and skirmishers.
If you leave AI alone it will snowball out of control.
Also, never forget upgrades, AI probably had better quality units than you if they were twice as strong (AI units are same as players, no cheating).
Oh, since there’s two of you, agree who’ll make what unit.
For example no point both to make knights, ideally one makes knights and other makes archers.
And remember to trade, with two of you that means gold is infinite.

Also how are your fundamentals – idle TC time, resource efficiency, getting housed, etc. ?
YouTube has some good guides for this stuff
February 5, 2023 at 6:59 pm #9577hard_luckGuestYou get to feudal at 8 minutes?
And 15 castle, on open map?
I would be surprised if you can have 1 tc working, nevermind an army as your eco would be too weak (especially if you are a newer player)
February 5, 2023 at 6:59 pm #9578debrijjaYTGuestEven though I agree with constant pressure, alternatively hard ai stops making villagers around 75 so if u can outlast them into post imp with larger economy, like 100+ vils, you can make the game heavily weighed in your favor
February 5, 2023 at 6:59 pm #9579TruthAltruistic2235GuestDu Upgrades?
February 5, 2023 at 6:59 pm #9580TruthAltruistic2235GuestSad.
That had been a simple solution 😛 have you ever watched your replays with capture age and conpared idle Time and Army Numbers?
February 5, 2023 at 6:59 pm #9581AngsDGuestHard AI caps their villagers at 75/200.
Of course the question is getting there, but the ideal ratio is *at least* 50% villagers of pop limit.
If you can get to the lategame with 110 villagers, you can pretty much outproduce what the AI is doing.
AI is also quite abusable with defensive structures and your town center.
Before Castles, you can use villagers to lure & pull enemy archers into your TC’s range, and Knights are reasonably easy to kill with your TC too.
After you get Castles, AI usually pushes with Rams, so civs with melee castle units can kill other units while having a small garrison of melee units able to kill the rams that make it to the Castle.
AI also rarely goes through walls if there’s a short path around the walls, meaning you can funnel their units reasonably easily *towards the castle*, if you leave up a hole in your walls deliberately at some concentrated defences.
This can give you time to get more economy than the AI, getting 3 Town Centers that constantly train villagers, building more military buildings, and win through outproducing the AI.
Also, try to upgrade your units as much as possible.
The blacksmith techs matter, a lot.
So does university techs for your ranged units + siege.
Mind you, none of this makes you much better at the game (players won’t fall for it), but for Hard AI, it can give you the breathing room to win.
February 5, 2023 at 6:59 pm #9582FavorableTrashpandaGuestWhat settings do you play on?
Everything standard?
Your uptimes seem a little *too good* if you can’t beat the hard AI.
Are you playing with high resources or something?
If so, then that explains why you’re still being so outplayed by the hard AI, because the AI will also receive more resources.
Either way it’s hard to say without knowing the settings.
February 5, 2023 at 6:59 pm #9583OkayTimeForPlanCGuestI want to see s rec of an 8 min feudal to 15 min castle.
Or are you talking real time minutes?
February 5, 2023 at 6:59 pm #9584DarkXcutionGuestPersian douche
February 5, 2023 at 6:59 pm #9585KyastAriesGuestDo you just want to beat them, or beat them in the “traditional way” (not sure if that’s even a thing anyway)?
If it’s the former, then just do a castle drop.
