the worst bf civ is chinese flank since they can’t contest the wall unless they wanna be a million vills behind.
Any clown strategy that can be done on BF before min 30 is only made possible by forward walls, so they can’t do any rush while every meme clown strat is viable against them.
Also they suck lategame too if that wasn’t enough.
February 2, 2023 at 9:17 pm #8286FuturalisGuestIt depends on position.
There’s a number of really boomy civs that aren’t great on flank.
There’s a number of really fast civs that aren’t great on pocket.
Generally speaking, if my civ is disappointing, I think there’s extra value in vill fighting hard, trying to keep the map open (or at least the wall forward) so I can apply pressure in Feudal or Castle Age.
Of course, that’s more easily said than done, especially if your teammate is not looking to play in any other way than boom to their preferred imp composition.
February 2, 2023 at 9:17 pm #8287stickycartGuestThe worst BF civs are the ones that lack an all purpose power unit and do not have halb+siege as a fallback option.
Chinese are classically in this category because of this.
Their late game has limited options and they struggle immensely against siege.
For similar reasons, Mayans are also in the bottom tier for BF.
Both of these civs can be successful on flank however assuming the map generation is open and you can early pressure.

February 2, 2023 at 9:17 pm #8289Ashur_ArbacesGuestVikings in the pocket since you will be on sling duty.
Chinese on flank cause fighting the vills wars to get the walls down in favorable position and still have your TC running with their start can be a disaster.
Mayans aren’t too great either but still preferred over the other 2 for a variety of reasons.

February 2, 2023 at 9:17 pm #8291ponunoGuestI think Huns are pretty bad atleast as flank.
Unit discount is not that important in BF since you can start trade so easily and having no house might be problem for early walls
February 2, 2023 at 9:17 pm #8292SnikhopGuestDon’t play a lot of BF if I can avoid it but Elite Berserks are pretty good aren’t they?
I’d have thought a closed map was the best way to get there as they’re so upgrade intensive.
Missing halb as well hurts though for sure.
Civs without great lategame options on a map like this which come to my mind are Tatars, Sicilians like someone else said (though Elite Serjeants can also hold their own against e.g.
paladins ime?), probably Berbers if there’s no way to use their mobility.
And all meso if the gold runs out I guess.
February 2, 2023 at 9:17 pm #8293malefiz123GuestI think it depends a lot on map generation.
A lot of civs with bad post imp can be good when the generation is pretty open, which happens a lot on DE.
Vikings for example can go fast Imp Arb / Siege Ram, or even full castle age aggression if the map allows it.
Berserks are decent enough as long as you’re not stuck in a choke point.
On Michi for example Vikings are straight up horrible.
Otherwise I think Sicilians are in a similar spot, Hauberk cavalier are just worse than Paladin in most situations and Serjants are worse than Berserks.
SO with SE is nice though.
Mayans can feel underwhelming as well.
But all in all I feel most civs have something going for them and if the map is a bit open you can salvage all of them
February 2, 2023 at 9:17 pm #8294Defiant-Indication59GuestDefinitely mayans
February 2, 2023 at 9:17 pm #8295BillBob13GuestI’m not a fan of dravidians on BF
