Infantry sucks, basically.
But also they are an infantry civ with awful infantry variety.
Other civs have an infantry UU thats better that the militia line, and access to something else on top of infantry.
Meso civs have eagles and other options, for example.
Meanwhile, Slavs only have access to Militia line, pike line, good but not top tier siege, and everything else is mediocre.
They are like slower and slightly worse Celts.
In the opening they have +50 wood with two military buildings giving 10 pop space.
When they get to 10 farms, one could say that they have +1 farmer.
They could have a strong all in castle age with cav, xbow/skirms, siege and monks but this is a very late timing that is not even so strong.
Poles have a way better and arguably broken timing and even berbers have a better knight rush with the option of camel and they are considered b tier.
As a Slav main thank you for all the comments!
You guys are all too damn smart, I love Slav cav but i usually dont use them until Late game.
my early pushes are with infantry and seige
Many things but mainly:
– No direct cavalry bonus, faster farming is good but not game destroying
– Kinda boring, lots of people don’t like them and pros prefer civs that they enjoy the most, slavs is constantly called the most boring civ in the game
– Mid, slavs are ok in most situations but not good, they can do a decent scout rush on arabia, they can do an ok smush on arena, they can be an ok pocket.
Slavs just aren’t really specialized on any map or situation.
– Inferior to competition, want tanky or armored cavalry?
Pick franks or teutons.
Want great farms for hussars?
Pick khmer or poles.
Want good smushing?
Pick burmese or aztecs.
Slavs are just outclassed nowadays.
On paper, Slavs are a infantry / siege civilization.
Meaning that their civ buffs aim strictly to that.
Yes, they also have fully upgraded cavalry (lacking paladin), and they do fairly well with thei farm bonus.
However, thats the only civ bonus that helps with cavalry.
On the other hand, civs like Franks or Magyars have more than one bonus that make their cav strong.
For example, Bulgarians have very cheap blacksmith upgrades, their blacksmith works faster, and they have their unique tech Stirrups (Making their cav attack 33% faster).
Those are 3 cav bonus vs only 1 for the slavs.
What im trying to say here, is that slavs dont have bad Cavalry, but they dont have more than one bonus that helps them in that area.
Most cavalry civs picked in tournamenta have more than 1 bonus.
While the eco bonus is good for late game, slavs don’t have any huge early bonus like Franks and Magyars, no bracer, hand cannon, thumb ring or bombard cannon makes them fairly rigid late game.
Awkward late game switch to either boyar or druzhina infantry is very slow and expensive.
Many of the mixed maps have access to extra resources which might benefit other civs more if farms aren’t the only food source.
