What Solution Do the Celts Have for Archers?

The foot soldiers in their castle were easily defeated.

Using onagers seems to be the only solution, but they need to have a large number of them and defend with pikes.

Upgrading to thumb ring is not as effective as getting skirms in the archery range.

As a beginner player of the game, the Celts have become a favorite, but struggling to counter a strong archery civilization.

Yes, the answer is to get Mangonels and flatten them down.

Archers do very little damage to siege and you fire faster so they are forced to flee.

Just be careful of knights diving in and killing them.

Adding to the mangonel suggestion, you should also consider scorpions.

Mangonels have big damage potential but they can be hard to micro properly, as you often have to predict where the enemy units will be and use the attack ground command to try and lead your shots.

Also, they deal friendly fire to your own units.

Scorpions are a less effective option in damage potential, but they can be very effective against archers when in larger numbers and you don’t have to worry about friendly fire or attack ground.

Good stuff in the comments here but I’d like to add skirms don’t need thumb ring to be effective.

It’s nice to have, but they don’t need it as much as crossbows/arbs or cav archers or something.

Thumb ring doesn’t actually boost their rate of fire and their accuracy isn’t too bad out of the box.

Halb/siege is pretty much a meta breaker, the main counters being gunpowder and strong infantry.

So onager/siege ram to either tank arrows or flatten archers.

Against cav it’s the halb and potential onager shots to weaken them.

    Woad raiders wreck crossbows.

Are you getting your infantry armor upgrades?

    Siege.

    Just that.

    Their Scorpions are machineguns.

    Skirmishers in feudal age.

A combo of mangonels and scorpion in castle age.

    However, skirmishers work just fine.

Don’t be afraid to use “weak” versions of counter units.

They’re often still fine, because they are counter units

    Stuff woad raiders in rams.

This will give you movement speed and close range contact in case your ram gets broken, now your enemy has to deal with high dps mobile units.
