What Is the Best Defense Strategy for Britons Against SO Halbs/Infantry?

You might think Longbowmen are the solution, but I found out in a recent BF game that they didn’t work out for me.
Instead, I found that Arbalests were more effective due to their faster production time and more available ranges.
Despite trying hit and run tactics and kiting, the battle was still difficult because my opponent had a large number of Siege Onagers.
I couldn’t use cavalry because of the Halberdiers and infantry.
Even if my civilization had a strong cavalry, it probably wouldn’t have made much difference.
So, are Longbowmen the best option against Siege Onagers, or is there another strategy to counter Britons?
Xbow
Warwolf trebs and longbows or crossbows, slowpushing with castle drops.
Arbs and micro better.
Literally pure arbs beats this from Britons.
Snipe SOs with light cav/warwolf trebs.
The problem is that you need to kite all the SO but only 1 SO needs to land a shot on you.
FU Champ ain’t nothing.
A FU unit is a special unit.
Briton arbs with yeomen can kill SO, but you need to pay attention very thoroughly (check viper mbl master of arena Britons vs celts).
Siege rams are very annoying if they are also added.
At that point champions is a good solution.
BBCs will always be a headache for Britons, but they don’t splash that much.
All this doesn’t hold for drill/torsion engines
1.
Spread out your longbowmen, don’t group them / bunch them together.
If you don’t want to micro, you may honestly be able to just spam your archers and set them to gather points and let them naturally spread out.
In post imp battles this probably isn’t the worst thing in the world.
2.
Consider adding some light cav.
At the very worst, they act as faster meat shields than halbs, and if your opp isn’t going into cavalry themselves, they will actually be better than halbs would be.
Alternatively, if you have spare gold and time to upgrade, consider champions.
3.
A lot of the issue here could simply be that you were far behind from an eco perspective and playing catch-up.
Simply put, the issue here wouldn’t be about micro or unit comp, but rather eco buildup in the time beforehand.
The answer is still longbows.
warwolf is great agasint SO, as long as you have a castle to support it.
siege ram though…
you have to get to champs to kill siege rams.
Trebs
First, your archers should have more range than the mangonel, so you could just stick to plan A.
If you want another option though, make light cavalry.
They’re so much faster than halbs that your opponent cannot push with their infantry, or else your light cav will clean their siege.
Therefore your archers can just pew pew unrestrained
Longbows counters SO quite effectively due to having a big range advantage as well as having faster move speed.
If they for instance right click on your units with all their SO, you should be attempt to micro backwards, as in fire a volley at one onager, move back and then hit the next one.
Avoid fighting in really tight chokes, especially if you have production or other things obstructing the potential pathway for your units.
You’ll wittle down those numbers fairly quickly, and can progress your push with your own halbs, champs and eventually even some keeps.
Warwolf trebs, keeps might help a bit, a few melee units can work ok in a more open area, longbows or Arbs are great counters until they have 20+ with full trade though.
