    Thumb ring is not some massive make or break tech for foot archers.

    This is classic distinction bias.

    Sure in a mirror archer v archer or archer v cav archer thumb ring is very nice to have.

    But vs most other targets when microing thumb ring isn’t exactly a must have.

    The reason thumb ring was taken away was so you couldn’t overpower archers with archers as Vikings and instead have to use siege or their extra HP infantry.

    If Vikings feel bad now it says a lot more about the need to reevaluate the generic unit balance in the game than it does about the civ.

    Vikings need to be wilder.

    In place of losing Thumb Ring they should retain faster firing.

    Also I think a fun idea for them would be “Settlements”.

    Every TC beyond the first two builds 40% faster.

    let’s not forget the Monk tech tree is awful as well.

    it’s absolute shit not having Redemption or Sanctity.

    What are you supposed to do against Knights & Siege?

    Maybe instead of berserkergang increasing the healing rate (useful but not game changing) it should allow berserks to be built in the barrack?

    The only great units that they have are berserkers and champions, and as we know, infantry usually sucks until later in the game.

    Their range misses Thumb Ring, their Baracks the Halberdier upgrade and their stable is almost useless.

    Even their monks and siege are just average or below average.

    I agree, they need “something”.

    But also, thumb ring made the civ too much an arb-fast-imp civilization, so that something is not thumb ring.

    I’m all for making their infantry stronger.

    Giving them FU arbs made them an Arb civ which was definitely awkward given their amazing eco.

    Make their infantry better – whether that is giving them Halb, Chieftains for free/cheaper etc.

    Think its pretty obvious at this point in time that infantry are pretty underwhelming and buffs don’t hurt.

    Japanese and Dravidians lack the insane economy boost that Vikings have to push out the same fast imperial arbalest siege ram strat.

    I would like if they doubled down on the infantry identity now that they have helped to lessen the archer identity.

    Either giving a slight hp regen to all infantry or even giving them halb.

    Has anyone ever ran the numbers on viking halbs to see how OP they would be?

    What if Berserks actually benefitted from the infantry HP bonus?

    Currently they have such low base HP (54 & 62) that the bonus only brings their HP up to the level of other infantry unique units i.e. 65 & 74.

    For example, this only matches the base HP of the Jaguar Warrior which is 65 & 75.

    If they had 65 & 75 HP as base, they would effectively have 78 & 90 HP with the bonus

    Vikings was in weird spot since release.

    I mean if they get any significant upgrade for their units they would become entirely diffirent civ.

    Return thumb Ring?

    Archer civ.

    Bloodlines or husbandry?Almost top tier Cavalry civ.

    I think current design is good enough but needed some tweaks to encourage to use barrack units.

    Berserks are great(honestly upgrade and UT cost is just fine) but their champions kinda meh(They are not even considered great against goths spam like burmese, japanese, aztecs champions) .

    Maybe give their infantry staggered hp regen bonus (something like 0/5/10/10)with berserkang sligtly boosting it

    I’ve always felt that the viking civ was far too weak and unfun to play, but the data goes against me.

    They have the fifth highest win rate so any buff isn’t really justified.

    Still, I’d like to see viking warship armor/attack upgrades in imperial or castle age to allow them to at least be useful in late game.

    Also allow them to carry units.

    Historically, I think Vikings should be a civ that is strong in the early game, but weakened later on.
