Hello everyone, I just finished watching Viper vs Villese.
I have a question regarding the Aztecs vs Japanese matchup.
Viper didn’t use infantry, despite the Japanese having a strong bonus for them.
Instead, he used cavalry archers, which seemed like an odd choice against the Aztec eagles.
Did he consider the usefulness of the militia line or was it a matter of their mobility or weakness to TC fire?
As a non-professional, I thought that going for champions and skirmishers would have been a better option.
However, I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
If u want to watch how cav arch do against eagle, watch Viper vs Jordan in the TTL i think semis or quarters, a month ago.
It was chinese vs mayans (i think, or aztec idr), and you can watch it both with t90 casting it and analyzing it or from Vipers pov/stream watching what cav arch gives you.
Essentially, if u mass u can hit and run and trade well, much better than expensive knights that trade worse in bad numbers and if eagle player adds pike/monks, or infantry that is so slow.
Iirc there is a game that depicts how bad infantry is vs eagle in ttl again tatoh vs Daut but dont remember which round.
Essentially eagles dont have to take the fight and can raid or use mobility, while eco required is usually better for the eagle player (at least with aztec/mayan) and with infantry u always chase, cant do damage, and ur ultimate army comp with infantry is always worse.
Longsword + siege can work against Aztecs defensively in early castle age but that has a bunch of its own problems.
Poor scouting, enemy boom, set up for jaguar counter, eagles sniping siege, etc.
As of right now longswords cost to much to tech into given their ability to effect positive trades is very limited.
E.g.
it costs 150 for supplies, 215 for LS unlock, and 175 for a second barracks.
If you’re going to spend that kind of villager time you might as well just make a castle for samurai to avoid the jaguar face rolling you later on. 1 castle samurai produces as much as 3 barracks making longswords in terms of army value so you don’t need a second castle anytime soon.
Granted samurai are a bit overpriced (40% more than LS is a bit ridiculous, only made reasonable here because Jaguars are also overpriced) but the point is production isn’t the problem.
CA are good v eagles. 1 more base attack than archers, and they have the mobility.
Militia line is bad and it is ok.
And it is ok to admit it.
Picking an archer civ is kind of troll in this meta.
Playing infantry into Aztecs is almost trolling.
Look at his food eco during the game.
How does he manage to spend 1000-2000 wood on farms without dying to 20 Eagles?
Viper didn’t make the market fast enough that’s why he was so far behind on castle age
