Do you have any unique strategies that are not mainstream?
Ones that you know may not work in competitive play, but you enjoy doing it casually and find it fun?
Personally, I enjoy using Malians and overwhelming my enemies with farimba light cavalry and bombarding them with BBCs.
Also, employing Japanese’s quick trebuchets and using Saracen cavalry archers to demolish structures are strategies that I find amusing.
I’m interested in hearing about any other random approaches that you might have.
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22161VixarkGuestWith malians: 6 men-at-arms into stone walls and then I set up the economy for 3 barracks longswords constant production in Castle Age (at 1 TC).
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22169squiddy117GuestTuetonic knights piled into siege towers.
Super fast, arrow resistant and can hop over walls of the run into them.
Drop off the knights and send the tower back to base to pick up another load.
Send em one or two at a time into separate parts of the opponents base and that many knights dropped all at once can be a huge problem if they make it to a juicy target
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22168kokandevattenGuestFull wall to make them think I am fcing and then sneak archery range forward.
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22167MtG-CrashGuestmy special strat is to have a clean economy, no idle time and I spend my resources.
Whenever I go for this, my opponents seem to have no idea how to counter that.
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22166SirFunkytonThe3rdGuestI like the 22 pop M&A celt spam.
They have the speed to track down archers so they srnt kited as easily.
You go double barracks and create M&A until you win or lose, vills come secondary!
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22165StRodeNLGuestThere are four I really enjoy
1.
Burmese 3 militia drush with M@A option into 22 vill Feudal archers into xbows + fast Redemption Monks and/or Siege, completely disabling enemy siege as you tech switch into a boom or kts behind the pressure of the xbows.
2.
Scouts into rapid double range while eating sheep in Feudal for fast food eco development as Gurjaras.
Hyperaggressive strat that puts immense pressure on the opponent.
3.
Bulgarian M@A into goldless Feudal Age (skirms normally) to get scout eco without having to play the defensively minded scout opening.
4.
Dravidian Double Dock + M@A opening on hybrid maps.
Abusing the wood bonus to go M@A and completely dominate the popular scout openings on secure lake maps like Cross and to still fight for water properly on more aggressive hybrid maps like Kawasan.
The best part is, these strats are completely viable too and are guaranteed to catch opponents napping.
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22164FinnTayGuestplayed against a fun strat recently:
Saracens 20pop scouts.
Upon reaching, build a stable and a market with 2 vills each.
Upon completing the market, sell stone and buy wood for another stable.
Send all new villagers on gold and constantly buy food.
Once you have 6 scouts, get a blacskmith, upgrades, bloodlines, start seeding some farms.
Buy food until around 150g~.
You should be able to reach Castle age with around 12 farms at minute 20-21 depending on how much you invested into your scouts.
Once you clicked up to castle, prepare 3-4 ranges for xbow or CA, shift your eco to wood and gold (keep around 9 on farms) and spam ze cav archers.
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22163thumbwarwoundedGuestIdk if it’s unusual since it’s one of the civ signatures but Saracen market abuse is so effective at low elo it should be illegal
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22162DOUGLESS_DOUGMOREGuestidk if this is a “special strat” but magyer, double stable, skip loom for that sweet bloodlines, and just 30 scouts.
then add a third stable
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22160LanguageEconomy8469GuestSomething in my back pocket is running what I like to call a “Roman garrison”.
It’s just 6×6 walls and a gate with 4 towers at each corner.
It’s expensive on stone, but I end up littering the map with these so any scouting activity just dies, and I can lock down gold and stone for my personal gain.
Bonus if you use a full archers line and tower line civ.
But it’s not always necessary.
And the other one I have is a double aggressive castle drop.
Spaced 6 apart, and wall around about 3-4 spaces out from base.
Usually save this one for Byzantine, franks, tuets and goths
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22159smilingstalinGuestI like to use Sicilians to Dark Age TC drop on Arena.
I’ve also enjoyed doing Land Wall on Michi and Amazon Tunnel.
Khmer House Rush is also a funny strat for open maps.
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22158BlockliesGuestMalay elephant push.
Go archers in feudal and drop a stable during castle age and create a few or elephants and as many crossbows as possible, add another stable later and keep adding more pressure, if they build a castle you can try to reach imp quickly and have a castle of your own to treb theirs down.
Add in a few pikes for defense and to kill any converted elephants and be ready for counter raids.
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22157leapingsalmon1GuestDonjon rush in hideout
March 22, 2023 at 12:51 am #22156ObiWansTinderAccountGuestAztecs all-in dark age double barracks militia spam.
Click up to feudal with 40 vils if you make it that far.
Have actually won a few games at around 1000 with this.
