I’m searching for a budget-friendly computer that can run DE without any major hiccups.

I’m looking for the most cost-effective option that can still deliver a decent gaming experience.

Because of things like pathfinding and the multitude of variables that update with upgrades, civ bonuses etc., the game is much more CPU-intensive than graphics-intensive.

Also what works for single player may just cause a lag fest if you want to play team games and that’s not fun for anyone involved.

I’ve got a 6 year old laptop with SSD and 8GB RAM and it’s just not playable with that (11 fps in dark age at 1080p, 2-3 fps in early imperial).

I’d prioritise CPU single-core performance and maybe stick with integrated graphics.

    Wait for aoe2 Xbox release.

Xbox series S costs less than $300.

You’ll get a decent, modern console and a system that runs aoe2!

The console release is confirmed to have mouse & keyboard support.

Cross play is also going to be available.

    Do used ones qualify?

Also, does it have to come with a monitor?

Lenovo Ideapad gaming would be a good new option, otherwise reallt anything used with a dedicated graphics card with at least 2gb vram

I believe one of the lowest gpus you can use with DE is a GT1030.

Knowing that, any 50 series GPU from the 10 series and up should be just fine with running aoe2DE.

Any modern CPU should also be good to run aoe2de, but you want to avoid integrated graphics if you want best results longer term.

Depending on budget, I would suggest perhaps a laptop, perhaps even used.

You can get a Laptop with a gtx1070(which is still viable in 2023 for 1080p gaming at 60fps in many titles) for $500 or less used.

And that’s the whole package since its a laptop and you can just use it docked if you want a sitting computer experience.

A used laptop with a gtx1060 can be found for $400 or less and that too would be plenty sufficient a GPU as well for 1080p gaming.

You don’t need anything fancy it runs fine on a ten year old computer with Intel HD 4000 and i5 and 8Gb ram
