I noticed that on virtually all maps with water and land, it is a great disadvantage to not build a Dock as soon as possible.

This is because the Dock essentially doubles the amount of resource collecting entities (RCE) you can create.

This leads to a certain build order that is difficult to escape from.

To make things more interesting, it may be beneficial to reduce the efficiency of fishing ships during the Dark Age.

This could be done by decreasing the collection rate by 25% and the carry capacity to 10.

In the Feudal Age, the fishing ships would automatically upgrade to their current state.

This would result in a stronger economy for those who chose to build the Dock, but they would do so later than if they had not gone with water.

This would also make Nomad more varied, as not building the Dock right away could be a viable option.

What’s bad about being “forced” into a build order?

Every map ever you’re forced into a build order.

    E.g. 6 on sheep

You could just dock and make fishing ships instead of changing game mechanics

    I agree.

Also, water has only food resource, no hills, no buildings and quite unsatisfying micro.

The less we’re forced onto water, the better.

    No it doesn’t.

You can easily just go straight for a M@A trush into fire ships or whatever raiding build you want.

Anyone who goes straight for food eco is essentially building killable dark age farms.

Fishing food eco becomes less reliable as the match progresses unless you’re Dravidians or a genius Malay player.

If people dont open fish on water and hybrid maps, there is no reason to fight for water controll in feudal.

    >This FORCES you into a certain build order.

    Exactly.

Once one is being forced into a particular build order the strategy is dead.

Same happens with the current Arabia meta btw.

Same up time, same playstyle every single game.

    >What might be more interesting is to nerf the fishing ships in dark age so that their collection rate is slow enough so that NOT going for fish would be a viable alternative.

Something like: Slow down collection rate by 25% and decrease carry capacity to 10.

    Yes please.

I’ve been calling this for years.

Water meta issue is rooted in both the Fishing Economy and the Naval warfare.
