    The April AOE2:DE PUP is now available and can be accessed by entering the password AwySkFVrXAWrCUukjjnfxjFN under Betas in the Steam properties.

    I’m strongly opposed to the Viking changes.

    1.

    Researching a tech to give you resources only when a particular unit type kills civilians stings of “win more”, but the unit types in question are bizarre.

    Vills only give 5 gold, trade units are generally too fast for this to affect them, and a gold reward for killing monks doesn’t really change things at all.

    This feels like the sort of tech you’d find in a YT civ writeup.
    2.

    The goal was to make them an infantry civ, not an archer civ.

    Why are they going back on this and giving them +1 attack for Arbs?
    3.

    Longboats were already dominant on water maps.

    A nerf was needed, yet the Imp UT strengthens them.

    The Ethiopian change is a bit odd.

    They were always a civ with camels that you never wanted to use.

    In fact when they were released they even got Halberdier upgrade for free.

    Buffing their camels seems odd when they already lack plate barding and bloodlines.

    Reducing pikeman upgrade cost is also an indirect nerf to them.

    Lithuanian bonus is odd now too.

    Tatars get 2x sheep when they build a TC, Lithuanians get instant food?

    General changes: Gambesons new tech, +1 pierce armor to Militia line.

    Bengalis:
    New bonus: Cavalry +2 attack vs Skirmishers
    Mahayana now also affects Monks

    Britons:

    Archery Range now works 10% faster instead of 20%

    Burgundians:

    Flemish Revolution now scales by number of villagers.

    Also Flemish Militia trained from Barracks instead of Town Center.

    Flemish Militia -15 HP, -1 attack, -1 Pierce armor, -10 food cost, -10 gold cost

    Byzantines:

    Greek Fire now also adds Bombard Tower blast damage.

    Celts:

    Stronghold now makes castles heal units nearby.

    Chinese:

    Villager bonus reworked to: Start with +2 villagers, -50 wood, -150 food

    Dravidians:
    New bonus: Siege Weapons cost -33% wood.

    Ethiopians:

    New team bonus: Outposts costs no stone and +3 line of sight

    Goths:

    New bonus: Hunt lasts 20% longer

    Huns:
    Atheism is cheaper and only costs wood and food.

    Incas:

    New team bonus: Start with a free llama.

    New bonus: Staggered food discount per age to all military units 15/20/25/30%

    Andean Sling now also gives Slingers +1 attack.

    Malay:

    New bonus: Infantry armor upgrades free.

    Poles:

    Villagers no longer regenerate in dark age.

    Saracens:

    Transport ship bonus now gives double instead of +5 carry capacity.

    Sicilians:

    Donjons can now train spearmen.

    Castles now built 50% faster instead of 100% faster.

    non-elite Serjeant +5 HP.

    Slavs:

    New bonus: Get Gambesons for free.

    Spanish:

    New bonus: Receive +20 gold for each technology researched

    Inquisition now also gives Missionary +1 range

    non-elite Conquistador -1 pierce armor

    Vikings:

    Chieftains now also gives gold rewards for infantry killing villagers, trade units or monks

    New imperial age unique tech Bogsveigar: Archer-line and longboat +1 attack

    Bengalis got a new theme/intro for when the match starts.

    It no longer uses a person’s voice and is completely instrumental.

    By your logic, anything that’s not the best isn’t “viable”.

    Are Huns the best on the map?

    No, certainly not.

    Those other 2 are better imo, but Huns are more than capable of being effective by contesting water in feudal age with faster producing stables and not having houses.

    Not sure if it is possible but I really hope they can add a trigger effect in scanarios editor that work like Cheiftans – killing specified unit will give player something, a perfect effect for custom scenarios and campaigns
