It’s been a decade since I last played this game, and I’m amazed by how great it looks and works on Xbox.

I’ve only been playing the campaign mode, so I’m not sure how the multiplayer is.

Nevertheless, I’m having a great time!

It’s been a lot of fun on xbox so far.

But I do get a little swamped down when fighting and managing workers and groups and everything.

But over all great nostalgic feel to it so far.

I’ve never played any AOE before.

I’ve just begun aoe2 definitive edition with Xbox and I love it.

Only played about 2 to 3 hours so far but it’s so much fun.

Lots I don’t understand yet and have to learn.

Working my way the the Wallace campaign and Joan of Arc too.

    Any newbie tips?

It’s been great, I’ve been playing with a keyboard and mouse as I couldn’t really do what I wanted to pull off with the controller.

I’m about half way through getting all the achievements done for getting a win with every different empire.

Terrified to try out multiplayer tho just incase I get paired with a super good player , just don’t want to waste another players time by being a terrible opponent

    I’m having a great time.

I haven’t played it for nearly 20 years, the game is so nostalgic and looks great.

I was terrible at it as a kid and still am, gonna do some more games against the AI then try out the multiplayer.

I’m having a lot of fun with it on console and with the controller.

I’ve mostly been a campaign/skirmish/casual player with every rts basically my entire life.

I love the auto economy and how well it was streamlined with a controller.

It’s perfect and tailor made for newcomers and casual players imo.

My favorite part is I don’t have to use GeForce now anymore for AOE because of my netbook, now only if we could get more ports like StarCraft remastered or the command and conquer collection etc I’d be so ecstatic.

Or if Xcloud could actually get PC streaming with M&K support, it’s still console only games even on pc for Xcloud.

    I can’t fathom it!

I have a gaming mouse with some extra buttons and I have all my hotkeys just so.

Can’t imagine giving that up for a controller.

I was initially very positive on the controls, and still think they’re great for casual games against AI or other console players where you just want to relax a bit and don’t want to get into micro.

Like a lot of us remember playing as kids.

But I always find that in the late game, when you’re commanding separate control groups in different parts of the map and trying to replenish each of them, using the controller gets stressful and overwhelming.

The controls are too slow to be able to manage what’s happening in three or four places at once.

Something you can do in a split second with keyboard and mouse might take two seconds with the controller, which makes a big difference when the late game is just a long chain of these micro-events.

I end up just blob-selecting my whole army and attack-moving them through the map instead.

Hey guys, I’d really recommend turning the advanced interface option on as early as possible so that you learn the game with this on!

It allows you to have control groups and access them really quickly, as well as some other settings too.

It’s way easier in the long run to not have to relearn some controls and to have the interface be the same in the long run.

Also go to the help settings and go all the way to ‘skills’, it gives some very specific to console advice, such as changing the default ‘Y’ for a unit/building.

    Awesome, just awesome.

Played it on ps2 when i was 12.

    It’s so nostalgic.

But atm I’m thinking about playing it with MnK on console, cause when action pumps up, controller istn precise enough to handle the micro during combat.

Macro and eco management feel quiet fine on console with roller imo
