Why don’t you let people want to be competitive in the game and be competitive, while you find friends to play casually?

I don’t play tank games either and prefer much more just casually game with my brother and friends…etc

    No, same here.

Picking the game back up after 20 year break.

I had a blast my first couple of ranked matches and won both of them. (and i am terrible)

Try it out and see how it goes.

The cool thing about playing ranked is you can play absolutely any strat you want at any pace and you will eventually find equally matched opponents.

I don’t understand why people feel like they need to “get good” before they play.

You want to go all in dark age militia every game?

    Go for it.

Want to play farm simulator for two hours?

There’s an Elo level for that.

Yes, you do need to get your butt kicked to drop there first, but just lose, laugh, type gg and move on.

Performance pressure is real but it’s 99% self inflicted.

If you just want to have fun online, you can have that.

However you’ll probably have to lose your first 10+ games to settle in an ELO which does not try to play as efficiently as possible 🙂

    Join the club!

I’ve played this game since I was 12 (now 30).

I only ever played skirmish or campaigns as a kid.

I came back years later after seeing people playing it on YouTube.

I found the meta way too meta for me, so I went back to campaigns for fun.

I did play a handful of online games and I didn’t do terrible, but it really is a game that you have to learn twice (once just to learn how to play, twice to learn how to play to win or keep up).

    My guy.

Any game that ages overtime will nurture god-tier players.

**HOWEVER, you don’t have to play like the sweat gods to enjoy the game.**

My recommendation for you is to play unranked/lobby matches.

Play or host PvP or PvE matches of your choice.

And if even that feels too sweaty, play with a group of friends who you KNOW you have a good time with, or play with AI.

Don’t let the sweat lords intimidate you!

My standard build order is 6 on sheep, 4 on wood, ….boars and berries somewhere…..vibes 🙂

If you wanna have fun in ranked, have fun in ranked.

You go down to 200 elo and you can create a grand empire before your opponents PC burns out due to all the units on screen at once.

You dont have to play ranked right away.

Check out some custom games for casual fun.

    Don’t worry about it.

    Just play to have fun.

    Elo doesn’t matter.

Chances are, if you’re bad, you won’t meet the sweats.

But you also aren’t going to be facing the 2k elos.

    So just do it.

Load up your favorite civ and try it.

I would suggest you do the tutorial or whatever it’s called.

Cause it will teach you the basics of the game for ranked.

    Other than that.

    Have fun.

    Play 11 games of ranked.

The first 10 are to find your elo.

Then one more to see if it’s something you wanna keep doing.

And if you don’t like it.

    You don’t like it.

I just enjoy playing team games.

Cause it’s less of a sweat fest and more of a fun time.

    If ya lose.

    Ya lose.

Most of the streamers you come across will let you play with them.

Honestly, there are parts of the online play that I really dislike.

To me this game was never about micro, but more about general strategy.

Seeing villager quickwalls, players dodging balistics, heck having 1 archer dancing to soak up arrow projectiles, none of these things I enjoy, or ever thought the game was about.

Nowadays I mainly play nomad and closed maps as a result and always in a teamgame setting.

On maps like arena and black forest you reach a stage of the game where it boils down to the strategy again, rather than the micro, and those post imp fights are what I enjoy, although I’m no stranger to monk/siege rushes and tower rushes either.
