Ideally, Maps Shouldn’t Depict Solely One Significant Resource (Gold)

I have noticed that in many maps of NAC4, the gold is concentrated in one area, giving it a feeling of a gold rush.

However, I personally prefer maps that have several locations with resources, such as the ones with resources on the sides or with stone in the center and gold on two hills.

I believe that the “gold rush” maps can be too simplistic and tend to result in a race for the central castle or siege workshop, ending the game quickly.

In contrast, maps with multiple points of interest are more diverse and offer a more exciting gameplay.

Tournaments like NAC are pressed for time.

The main reason the maps are like that is so that the games don’t last too long.

    There’s a tight schedule.

But otherwise yea gold rush maps aren’t the best.

Let’s get a food rush map.

    I disagree.

There are many maps where sides come into play too.

Most of these maps also have water so it’s at least two dimensional, they are also designed so that if there is a single area it’s hard to put a castle on due to size or resource placement.

It also forces aggression because if you try and turtle then you’ll be starved of res, and tournaments live or die by aggression.

Golden Swamp is so boring though I’ll give you that.

Combined the two worst features of heavy water play (yawn) and every game going into treb wars.

Fair point but something like golden lakes or african reed beds are still much more interesting than kawasan or frigid lake imo.

Golden swamp I think is a pretty bad map and I have no clue why it was included in the first place.

extra gold isn’t an essential resource.

food and wood are essential resources.

the first 2000-4000 gold is an essential resource.

but too much gold is supposed to be a scarce resource that you have limited access to

the game has tools to beat someone who slows down their development to take control of some gold.

it might not be successful if the economies are 100% safe, but that’s a problem with the rest of the map, not with the locations of the gold
