I apologise if this has already been addressed.
However, I am weary of playing against the computer because I can usually win against moderate AI, but I have only beaten hard mode AI once.
I desire to play against other human players but I am afraid of being defeated.
I am not familiar with the concept of “ranked”.
I assume that I would be ranked quite low.
Do you know of any way that I can play against other players without being completely dominated?
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22319NyacreepsGuestThe goal of a ranked ladder is not, as many gamers think these days, to grind points and prove your are the best.
The ranked ladder will allow you to find opponents of your level, even if you think you are bad.
Of course the system will need some games to figure out your true level and you should need about 10 ranked games before stabilising (you will probably lose lot of those games but don’t worry, it’s for the best)
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22320Living-Snow-2477GuestYou should just…get into it.
It’s just a game so dont take it too seriously.
You will figure out ways to improve as move along.
The only deciding factor on how good you want to get is how much time you want to invest into practice.
Personally I go full random civ every game, follow loose build orders and that keeps my elo between 1000 and 1100.
It’s a great elo to be at in my opinion.
So much stupidity.
Half of my 1v1s feel like slapstick comedies.
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22321TheTowerDefenderGuestI’d recommend to play ‘art of war’-campaign and maybe look up a build order, other than that do what the others said and jsut get into it.
yeah, you will probably loose a few games at the beginning but after that you will have games against equally skilled opponents. 1v1 matchmaking is pretty good.
Have a look at T90’s low elo legends, loads of people seem to lose their inhibition to play ranked after seeing some of the videos.
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22322onzichtbaardGuestyou have to accept that getting destroyed is inevitable
only then are you ready
and ready you are when you accept this
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22323-Alphard-GuestBy multiplayer you mean 1v1 or group games?
If it’s 1v1 you don’t have to worry, after a few games you will play with people the same level as you, so no matter your skill level the game will be balanced.
As for group games, pretty much the same, just be careful and don’t play too much Persians and Cumans lol
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22324Angryhippo2910GuestI’d say your best bet it to learn a build order or two.
Probably a scout rush, and a archer rush (plenty of videos on YouTube to help with that).
Then commit to playing on the ranked ladder.
You’ll get destroyed your first few games.
But that’s for the best.
Eventually you’ll stabilize around people who are at your skill level.
From there your win rate should be about 50% give or take.
People are a lot more fun to play against.
One thing that helps me is that I found I used to lose my first game of the day pretty consistently.
So I do a warm up match against the AI, and that head helped a lot.
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22325temudschinnGuestHi, I am currently working on a guide to answer this question because its asked often, but here is the very short answer:
-Realize that most player are really bad when compared to pros.
You dont need to play perfectly to compete, you only need to play.
-Get at least silver in the first art of war mission.
-Learn a scout rush BO and kill the AI with it about 3 times (difficulty isnt all that important)
-Play the military art of war missions and learn an FC build order.
-Select byzantines and go into ranked.
Play scouts into anything on most maps, and FC into boom on closed maps.
Try to build the counters to the enemy units you scout.
This will not be the easiest way to win, but the easiest way to learn the game.
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22326somethingstumpyGuestYou’re scared of getting destroyed?
WHAT?
It’s a game mate..
what is there to be scared of?
Get in and within 25 mins your first game will be over and you will know exactly what it’s like.
If you lose, SO WHAT?
Why do you care?
Do you base all your self-worth and confidence on whether some random person somewhere in the world beat you once in AOE 2?
Seriously, just play the fucking game.
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22327magic_clawGuestJust do it.
After you win/lose a few times, you will settle at a level where you will start to get competitive matches.
That’s the whole point of the “ELO” system.
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22328Cultural_Parfait7866GuestNever understood the whole scared to play online thing.
You will lose some, you will win some.
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22329TwuggleGuestWatch T90 low legends.
It will show you there’s someone with your skill level in ranked.
Ranked ques are the BEST way to have fair matches.
Skip the unranked and lobby browser games.
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22330Gullible-Rub511GuestJust start playing ranked is my advice.
You will get destroyed but you’ll start playing with people at your level pretty quickly after a few losses
March 22, 2023 at 10:33 am #22331GigantoraptorforsureGuestplay a lot.
get level with same strenght opponent.
have fun
