Where’s the «fewer than 10» option?
With the lack of an “it depends” option, gotta point out that’s it’s very much the case.
AoE2 isn’t about passively amassing an unbeatable death ball then going in one push, except for the times that it is.
Every game is different, every game has a different win condition.
How to tell you are low ELO without saying you are low ELO 🙂
i answered 10-30 but none of the options felt good.
it’s more of an organic expansion out depending on timing or i take a small rush and double down on that with increasing troop count if it’s going well.
Who need troops if you can use vills too?
I never abandon my base
I attack with either 3 militia + scout or 4 scouts or 6 archers + 1 spearman initially
0, just attack with vils
Last online game enemy castle dropped me on my starting TC, already had two more up so I just moved my eco, my first two knights from two stables killed some 7 villagers he had on stone.
any idle military isn’t ideal, the least they can do is Scout

very important point to remember: units you send forward dont have to die.
If you send forward, they meet more enemies, just have them run back.
If you kept producing units in this time, when your units come back you can combine them and go forward again, maybe outnumbering your opponent.
Instead of completly going back you could also go to a different point of your opponents base and see if he has units there.
Plus point of moving out early is that you gain information about what and how many troops your opponent has.
Especially cav is good at this with their high speed, although knights got really low vision to balance it.
But if you add scouts or cav archer, you also got good vision.
Hard part is managing your economy, your production and the units you send forward at the same time.

PD2: Not only for a brief battle to harm their finances, but for a full-scale attack intended to overcome them.
Liereyy would be very unhappy with you option..
one archer and one spear can wreak havoc
what do you mean abandon my base?
cant i attack an opponent without abandoning my base?
I guess it depends, as allways 11 it is not the same 10 knights than 10 xbows for example
