    The Göktürks were a khaganate in central Asia, led by the Ashina clan, that emerged in the 6th century after conquering the Rouran Khaganate.

    They were in power for approximately two centuries, controlling an area from the Caspian Sea to Manchuria at their height.

    Their constant raids and warfare with the Sui and later the Tang dynasty in China led to their eventual decline and takeover by the Uyghur in the 8th century.

    As a civilization in Age of Empires II, the Göktürks are a cavalry archer and steppe lancer-based civilization.

    Their civ bonus involves replacing farms with pastures where sheep can be produced at the mill and put in the pasture.

    Nonetheless, pastures have various distinctions from farms, including faster gather rate early on, equal food early but less late, less space needed but more vulnerable to raids, and the farming techs being replaced with different benefits.

    Meanwhile, their Outpost provides an improved move speed of 5% to cavalry, camels, villagers, and trade carts when they are within eight ranges of the outpost.

    Other bonuses include a 10% reduction cost for castle and 20% for imperial steppe lancers, as well as a 20% increase in speed for ram-line and free upgrades.

    The unique unit of the Göktürk is the Ashina, which is a cavalry archer that fires in short bursts and delivers 1 less range than the regular cavalry archer, although it carries a bonus to all infantry instead of just spears.

    The Göktürk’s unique techs include Kumis production (Castle), which returns gold based on the Cavalry training time; and Steppe tactics (Imperial), which causes Ashina and Cavalry Archer’s attacks to deal lingering damage to units but not siege.

    Lastly, the missing techs from numerous categories are excluded, except for the eco category where farming techs are to be replaced.
