Hey everyone, I recently started playing multiplayer on Steam for Age of Empires 2 HD after taking a break for a while.

My favorite map mode is Monad due to the challenge and variety it offers.

However, I struggle with choosing the best spot for my town center, which often leads to a weaker economy and damaging my team’s chances of winning.

Currently, I look for isolated and defendable terrain with nearby resources such as forests, berries, boars or deer.

I have also started to utilize fishing economy as it seems to be a popular strategy in maps with lakes or seas.

However, I am unsure whether to prioritize building a dock or gathering wood when discovering a sea mass.

Additionally, I am trying to adjust my strategies for this unique map mode without sacrificing efficiency.

Any tips on scouting would also be appreciated as I often find myself surrounded by multiple players without realizing it until late game.

2 vils that are close to each other build immediate tc on the nearest woodline. 1 vil that is further away makes a house and then goes to the nearest edge for a dock.

Use sheep to scout for boars.

If you have to send out a vil to scout, its fine.

    Better to find those boars.

Usually i go 4 on wood and the 5th one brings in a boar.

It can be a bit tight on food income so you can go 3 and 4th.

Once your first boar is in, put 2 or 3 vils on boar, rest on wood, go up to 6 on wood, then its just boars boars deer and boars.

All the while keep making fishing ships and houses.

A total of 6-8 fish is a good number.

If youre sandwiched between 2 players, then your job is to stay alive as long as possible, while harassing them both or making them both invest into fighting you.

This means youre holding back 2 players which gives your team good odds to carry you in imp.

Also relocating and expanding your eco is key.

I just put a TC down on the fist woodline I see.

The time saved makes up for a slightly worse location.

I build a dock right away but its tricky balancing output from both dock and TC.

I usually scout with a spare vill if i need more sheep.

I really like [Hera’s guide](https://youtu.be/gZTDWkfZNLU) for the Nomad start.

    I’ll tell you my strat

I tend to place my tc towards the corner of a map if possible, as it allows you to have a natural wall on 2 of your sides.

Being next to wood is a must, being on wood and another resource is great, but getting your tc built is more important than searching for resources.

Don’t place your tc to close to the water, as you run the risk of it being shot down my water units.

Also don’t build to close to your Teammates, you don’t want to have to be stuck sharing resources, games are often won and lost on map control.

Some people do 2 of the vils that are closest together to build the tc, and one to build a dock.

I’m very bad on water, so I don’t focus to much on it, just enough ships to bring in food to make sure I’m not behind, but not enough that if I lose them I lost a big investment.

    Usually I build 5-8.

In team games it’s fairly advantageous to coordinate your team’s TCs in a broad region of the map so you can support eachother, insomuch as it’s practical to do so without delaying your TCs.
