A few years ago I was amazed to find a list of all the dialogue from one of my favorite games, Age of Mythology, typed out in clear text.

This list was very useful when I was creating scenarios.

I thought to myself, why can’t Age of Empires 2 have something like this?

So I decided to make one myself.

I got halfway through the task of typing out each dialogue until I came across a file that I had initially overlooked.

It turns out that the game already had a text file with all the dialogues in it.

The developers had put it in a clear text format so it could be edited and saved.

I then proceeded to clean up the text and put it in order.

I also combined the titles of the sound files with the strings that were used to quote them.

The strings can be used in the “Display Instructions” trigger effect to easily insert the text in the trigger.

I also kept the original names of the units that spoke the dialogue.

After two days of work, the list was complete.

I hope this list can be used to make great scenarios with great dialogue!
