Before the launch of the Xbox, I’m immersing myself in content to begin to understand the game.
Is the Wololo tournament the ultimate annual event in Age of Empires II?
Are there other competitions that are as popular?
Additionally, which Wololo event (1-4) would you recommend watching?
I plan to go through one of the events in full over the next two days.
If you have any other classic matchups you’d recommend, I’d love to hear them.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
February 12, 2023 at 10:30 am #11592RyukyuEUIVGuestRedbull Wololo are considered S-Tier tournaments.
But they used empire wars which is a different start then most games.
So if you start playing, then you probably dont play empire wars a lot.
It isnt that common.
That being said, RBW are great tournaments to watch.
They already have hosted 6 editions!
The last one was RBW legacy, and was combined for aoe2 and aoe4!
I would suggest looking up TheViper and Hera.
Both are the greatest players atm who also stream a lot.
Just look af YouTube and watch their latest games.
If you want to learn the game, then Survivalist has some great vids.
Skill wise he is worse then TheViper and Hera, but he is still a good player.
He has some great guides to understand the basics.
I really like this one to lay a good fundament: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQ8BgSJQQkY3VRQMZ3mJAhdWn9YLum8k6
February 12, 2023 at 10:30 am #11593The-BerzerkerGuestThere isn‘t really one tournament that clearly outshines all the others but I think usually Hidden Cup is the most anticipated and exciting event out of all the major ones
February 12, 2023 at 10:30 am #11594RovseaGuestThe Redbull Wololo events are hardly “super bowl” type events, but they are certainly high quality tournaments with large prize pools (including the highest prizepool aoe2 and aoe4 event).
I would watch Redbull Wololo V or Redbull Wololo Legacy (basically 6), both of which should be on youtube.
Those 2 events were both LANs held at Heidelberg castle, and have the largest prizepools with the best overall production for the events.
February 12, 2023 at 10:30 am #11595kamikageyamiGuestTitans league is a tournament that’s going on right now with a lot of top players, search “T90 extras” on youtube to see full casts of the games.
There have been some great series so far
Also you should check out T90’s main channel for more stuff, I recommend his Low Elo Legends series in particular – he casts games played by noobs, it’s absolutely hilarious but all in good fun, he also points out their mistakes and how they could improve
February 12, 2023 at 10:30 am #11596BillBob13GuestWe don’t really have a ‘super bowl’ so much as have a bunch of high quality, high paying tourneys (S-tier)
Hidden Cups, King of the Deserts, Red Bull Wololos, among a few other 1-offs, fit this category
February 12, 2023 at 10:30 am #11597Human_Sock_6206GuestIf your goal is to learn how the game works I would bot recommend wololo since they use a different game mode than the standard game.
I would recommend “the resurgence” tournament.
It’s the standard 3 villager start Iirc
February 12, 2023 at 10:30 am #11598burlapturtleneckGuestThe other commenters explained that it isn’t really the super bowl but I think if you are looking for an analogous thing then majors in tennis or golf probably make the most sense if the S tier explanation wasn’t entirely clear
That isn’t perfect either because things are not as established with the same consistency but the personalities of tournaments is also like tennis on grass/clay/hard court.
The best players are still the best players because the game is still mostly the same but the tournaments tend to each have their own “twist” that makes them emphasize different aspects of the game or strategic planning with civ and map drafts
February 12, 2023 at 10:30 am #11599WillK90GuestCheck out T90’s YouTube channel.
He provides commentary on various tournament games as well as a bunch of other content.
I’m always watching his stuff I can never keep up lol.
I really enjoyed his Hidden cup tournaments.
He also casts low elo games which are always fun.
February 12, 2023 at 10:30 am #11600Single_Personality34GuestWololo tournaments are widely considered to be the premier event in the Age of Empires 2 (AoE2) community, featuring the best players from around the world competing in a double elimination bracket format.
However, there may be other events that rival it in terms of size and competitiveness, depending on the region and the players involved.
As for the best Wololo tournament to watch, it’s difficult to say as it largely depends on personal preference.
However, Wololo IV (Wololo King of the Hill 4) is often considered one of the best and most exciting events in the series, featuring some of the best players and matches in the history of the game.
Additionally, there are many other classic matchups and tournaments worth watching, such as the Voobly Legends Cup and the Forgotten Empires Ladder Season tournaments.
February 12, 2023 at 10:30 am #11601Former_Star1081GuestWatch Hera vs mbl set in rbw.
Absolute banger.
