AOE2 has been a classic for decades and its still so popular, even more so than newer games like AOE4.

Despite the recent surge in DLC, the definitive edition will eventually start to feel outdated.

To keep the game fresh, a new version of the DE could be released, complete with updated graphics, new game mechanics, hero units, reskinned regions, and new classes of units for land and sea battles.

This new version could also include all the current DLC, as well as new DLCs for multiplayer game modes and a story-driven RPG-style campaign.

This could keep AOE2 popular for many more years to come.

    Nah, I don’t think so.

They planned aoe4 to be a proper aoe2 successor so I would rather expect Microsoft to invest more in aoe4 development to make it a truly competitive game then reviving aoe2 again.

Maybe in another 20 years so that we can play AoE2 on our holographic displays with neural interface support

There’s whatever “Return of Rome” is.

They’ve been quiet about it so it could be bigger than a typical civ addition.

It is kind of amazing that all the games I loved as a kid are still around.

    Starcraft.

    Age of Empire.

    Smash Bros melee.

FF9 has gotten a bunch of remakes.

It’s just that it’s been remade, games like melee are still competitive lol

Someone made a VR mockup of C&C Red Alert 2, it looked so strange, like the map was a toy game on top of a table, and you were playing with toy tanks.

Imagine VR age of empires 2 that is like a tabletop game, you see a large table and the buildings + units move on top of it

I don’t see why, it’s not like graphical improvements have gone as far as they did from the AoK engine to 2019.
