100% agree, and the assortment of poorly thought out responses in this thread prove that your post makes some sense.
The devs also made a mistake by initially not giving Dravidians Bombard Cannons, which they later realized and fixed.
I have a feeling the mistake of not giving them Redemption will be fixed in the future patches.
Even with Redemption, their monks are pretty bad, tbh, which is also very historically inaccurate…
Dravidian monks were the ones who hugely spread Hinduism and Buddhism (and the love for elephants) to the entirety of Asia (includes the civs of Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Malay, Burmese, Khmer, Vietnamese in AoE2)

Elephants archers take 6 *direct* mangonel hits before they die, so they are a counter.
Dravidians also have access to bombard cannons.
