This is occurring frequently, as I choose a different civilization and commence the game with a fresh one.

You either have the random box not crossed or you’re playing teamgames where the question of random or pick civ is decided by the majority of players.

Have you ticked the box for random civ, and the opponent has as well?

Or playing in a game where there could be a majority who have ticked it.

If it’s happening a lot though, there’s a decent chance it is bugged.

I have had that with a friend.

We both have random disabled, so we cannot get random civs.

But a split second before the game started, I saw how the system changed my friend’s “Spanish” pick to “Random” (while my own civ stayed the chosen civ btw).

So only my teammate got a random civ.

It was pretty annoying because we wanted to test something and we were happy we got the right map, and then this happened.
