I am feeling overwhelmed by the amount of tasks I have to complete once I reach castle age.
My AI opponent always manages to outdo me while I am still trying to build up my civilization.
Does anyone have any advice that would help me manage all of my responsibilities from castle age and beyond?

The most important things are to always make villagers and houses.
Theres a tempo or kind of a beat to the game that you learn where you alternate between town center, queuing villager, tasking villagers, then military building, queuing military, tasking military.
You go back and forth between the two and the goal is to repeat the cycle and always be clicking something without down time.
Art of war scenario fast castle and booming are great practice, try to get silver or gold on them if you havent yet.
Once u get better at eco management then you can incorperate army in between.

You don’t.
Jokes aside, hotkeys and control groups go a long way to letting you multitask.

But generally, you feel overwhelmed because of the number of things you should take care of.
After you did the build a lot of times, you find need to focus on that, it’s just a muscle memory.
So the being overwhelmed feeling slowly goes away with practice. (And then you try to add more stuff to your game and feel overwhelmed again, that’s just how it goes)
February 24, 2023 at 3:40 am #15186da_vinceGuestYes, Hotkeys, Control group and cycling through your units is important for better multitasking.
But giving yourself time to think about stuff is also very important, you know this feeling when you are watching pros play and think that it looks slow?
That is because you have time to think about stuff.
What I did to get better at multitasking is something i did during my SC2 zerg days: i set a timer to ring once every minute.(for SC2 it was the queen cycle) When I here the ring :
I check my res and the distribution of my vills ( do i have 34000000 wood?, I am making kts do i need 4959 vills on wood )
I look at my global queue (nice no production better change that)
I look at the mini map
I move my scout
I think about my game plan.
At the beginning i only did one or two of the things, this is were hotkeys and control groups become important!
they enable you to do more.
What I noticed is that you often look stessed at game but are actually doing nothing, so being fast is not the problem, remembering “to play the game” is the problem 11.
When you get better you can do this cycly more often, and you will *soon* no longer need the ring from the timer. (*soon* meaning thousands of hours of playing and loving and hateing the game.)
