I don’t want to participate in a game of chance, and if desired, you should be able to select an option for a random outcome.

Why should I be required to play it occasionally?

I am unaware of any other game that has such a feature.

Because not everyone wants to play TGs with only:
    – Arabia: Franks, Britons, Mayans
    – Nomad: Spanish, Persians, Malians
    – Water: Italians, Wikings

I actually enjoy random nomad games the most.

Lol this feature was introduced somewhat recently and the community was overall extremely pleased with it.

Granted, it was implemented more for 1v1 than team games.

But the idea is that it enables players who want to play with a random civilization to do so without being at as much of a disadvantage.

Picking civ obviously gives players a chance to pre-plan their build order and strategy.

No one can do that if everyone is random.

Some of us prefer playing that way.

I will note that I never saw this utilized at all in team games until a month or two ago, and now it feels like roughly 1/3rd of my team games are random.

I’ll only select the option for team games if my teammates also have it toggled on.

If you want to pick civs, just don’t click the button?

If half or less of the players don’t click it, everybody gets the civs they picked.

This means that when you go 1v1, you never have to play random civ.

In team games, as long as your team has the same selection as you, you again never have to play random civ.

    What’s the problem?

Listen, if everyone wants to tryhard, I’ll pick Liths, Franks, Viets, Mayans, you name it

But, I prefer to play a different game every time I queue up, so I toggle the random button on

    I really enjoy that option.

I dont want to play vs stupid civ pickers every game.

It just is not fun and redundant.

If you want to pick civ go ahead.

But sometimes I get my fun as well.

It’s a great tool to get some variety from the same few civs

My friend, random is the way rather it be TG’s or 1v1.

    Become one with the way.

Open your mind a bit, I’ve clicked the button and found a civ that on paper I didn’t like but when playing it found out I genuinely enjoyed its bent.

I really miss the Voobly days where if you picked civ everyone thought you were a punk.

    Yes it stupid.

Better make ranked random only and civ picking for lobbys.

I find pure random games tend to be the most interesting.
