My group of friends and I recently began playing a game and we aren’t very good at it.

We’ve been playing in private matches, usually with two or three people on each team.

I’m looking for a simple strategy that beginners can use to beat my friends before they become more skilled.

Try poles men at arms into tower rush.

The gold for stone bonus really helps keep the towers going and let’s you keep producing maa if you need to.

Depending on the map malay 20 elephant rush it’s really easy and if you do the build right and the other player isn’t expecting it they can’t win.

If you are playing with a team of folks you know, I highly recommend the Goth-Condo sling.

I think it is legitimately one of the most effective meme strats on maps like Arena, Michi, and Fortress.

A different strat that I recommend simply because I think it’s super funny is the Spaghetti Drop.

Though this one will likely take some practice to get it right.

Like you, I played this game for a long time with the same group of guys in smaller lobbies and always loved the Magyar Scout cavalry into Magyar huszar rush.

Pretty easy to pull off imo as honestly I’m not very good at the game lol, and it’s a blast to play too.

Are you planing to continue playing for more than a couple weeks?

If so the cheese will probably fail after a win or two.

I would recommend you do the Art of War training and maybe the mod for build orders.

If you can get a decent archers and a scouts build you’ll play solid and keep getting better ahead of them.

Practicing the right things is with far more than gimmicks

I’m a big fan of the Saracen monk rush.

You neglect gold completely, focusing on food and wood, then use the market in feudal to sell stone to pay for a super fast castle.

Then you make monks and use them to convert enemy vills, buildings, and military.

If you do it right you can be in castle age stupid early and steal their econ to make up for the sacrifices you made to get there.

The T90Official YouTube channel has a series called “Low Elo Legends” which you may find entertaining.

It also occasionally highlights certain strategies that may not be optimal at high level, but can be very difficult for beginners to stop.

For a specific strategy I think you need to say what map(s) you care about.

Some strategies you might like include:

Persian Douche (dark age) or Cuman douche (early feudal) on open maps.

It’s surprisingly difficult to deal with a TC dropped in your starting eco.

Cuman feudal tower rush into feudal age rams w/archer support from your 2v2 partner.

Do this on maps with starting palisades or that you know your opponents like to wall early.

Aim to take out their TC so they can’t age up.

Actually works surprisingly well vs AI also.

Mostly this works off surprise factor.

It’s not hard to counter, but if you’ve never dealt with it it’s easy to lose to.

Malay fast castle into all in Battle Elephants (even idling your own TC).

    Check “Legend of the Liar”.

Typically done on hideout because palisade walls make you relatively safe for FC, but easy to bust through with Eles.

    On arena just spam goths.

They’re hard to stop for beginners due to the sheer flood of units they unleash if you can’t damage them early.

On Michi just 4 TC boom then spam Persian War elephants.

They’re super expensive and hard to mass, but are extremely pop efficient and will even beat units designed to directly counter them (Halbs/Camels) in mass battles thanks to splash damage.

If enemy has monks and knows how to use them mix in hussar.

On water maps just pick Malay and go to feudal fast.

If you can get 2 dock production (either fire ships or galleys) significantly before your opponent you can snowball very very hard.

The castle age unique tech that makes your docks fire arrows can be surprisingly useful too (you can basically make towers that don’t cost stone, which let’s you control the water much easier).

Aztec smush is one that’s actually viable even at higher levels, but can be considered a cheese strategy.

Fast Castle then produce tons of monks, get as many upgrades as possible, and make enough mangonels the opponent can’t avoid coming out to fight you.

Convert literally all their army, gg.

On Nomad, pick Spanish, build a castle, and spam conqs.

Careful against skirms, but you have a huge mobility advantage and should be able to find lots of value.

Persian douche is fun but your friends will catch on pretty quick so it’s probably only good for one match.

Most cheese strats are harder than regular ones but I recommend:

    – Malay fc into 20 elephants make sure to claim you wanted to pick magyars and don’t know how to play malay.

    – Persian/byzantine douche, delete your starting town center and build another in your opponent’s base, you’ll always win the tc fight because yours has more hp.

    – Khmer fc into knights, if you can push deer you can get an insane uptime of 13 mins to castle age, you can also hide vills in houses if you get rushed.

    – Monk rush, any civ is fine but aztecs and bengalis are great for tanky monks.

    – Cuman all in feudal age, go for rams and lots of archers.
