These are some of the campaign missions that proved to be quite challenging for me.

Keep in mind that I have not completed all of the campaigns, particularly Tariq and Sundjata.

All of these missions were played on Hard mode without any game exploits or “cheese” strategies.

Here are the missions, listed in no particular order:

Grand Dukes 2: This mission was surprisingly difficult due to the player’s exposed location and the sheer number of enemy units.

Hautevilles 2 (Roger in Sicily): I found this mission particularly frustrating because if you don’t use a “snipe all Emirs” strategy, it becomes almost impossible to win due to the endless waves of enemy units.

Jan Zizka 2: Although this is an early scenario, it is still quite tough due to three post-imperial enemies constantly spamming paladins and teutonic knights.

Additionally, it is challenging to snipe the enemy leaders.

Saladin 6: This mission is tough due to the strong compositions of the enemy units.

However, attacking your opponents rather than defending can make it more manageable.

Ivaylo 3: Defending your base against three endlessly spamming enemies can be challenging, particularly when trying to snipe their khans.

Rajendra 4: A difficult mission due to the timer and the endlessly spamming enemy with limited resources.

Jadwiga 4: Without spamming towers and houses to wall, defending against the enemy seems nearly impossible.

Jadwiga 5: The Blue Tatars are one of the most spammy AI enemies in the game, and the timer adds an extra layer of difficulty.

Even with a full army and bombard towers, breaking their base can be very challenging.

Bari 4 (Best Laid Plans): This mission is tough due to the large armies of the numerous enemies.

Hautevilles 5: A grindy mission with little space, lots of enemies, and strong armies.

Tamerlane 5: Limited resources and lots of spam make this mission particularly challenging.

Alaric 5: The player must kill Saurus quickly or face a spammy mission with strong enemies.

Prithviraj 4: The mission is timed and requires the player to destroy three monasteries while dealing with endless waves of tough enemy units.

    > Jan Zizka 2.

Another surprisingly tough early scenario. 3 post imp enemies endlessly spamming paladin and teutonic knights.

Sniping the enemy leaders is tough as well.

    Extremely grindy and annoying.

It’s to teach you the stront aspect of the Bohemians: halbs against paladins and hand cannoneers against teutonic knights.

Any of the forgotten empire ones from 2015ish with lots of small scale battles.

They were all really well calibrated so you could win with decent micro, but if you just atack moved you would lose badly.

Problem is since then there have been buffs and nerfs where they probably need another look at.

    Anything with Longswords for example

    Without cheesing them?

Joan of Arc 5 (Siege of Paris) on Hard is all but impossible to win as laid out.

If you’re using kite strategies and sniping specific holes in walls, yeah, it’s been done with both killing nothing and killing everything.

    Going *into* the city?

    Oh boy…

    Tariq 4 (Pyrenees) is similar.

Gotta agree with you on Grand Dukes#2.

That mission was harrowing on Hard.

    Absolutely hated it.

So much grind it reminded me of Tariq.

    Hautevilles 2.

Your first target should be Yellow in order to give your Ally a base, rather than set up your own.

As long as Yellow is up and running, you can breeze through.

    Jan Zizka 2.

Err, I really, REALLY, like the Zizka campaign.

I often repeat this mission to beat different objectives or kill the leaders in different orders.

Saladin 6 is a cakewalk if you do two simple things.

Firstly, immediately send your Galleons and a Cannon Galleon to Jerusalem’s base that’s east of yours.

Secondly, destroy the Genoese fleet and coastal buildings and drop a Castle at the Genoese base, it’ll draw the Franks and Teutons while you can rush in and cripple the Britons.

The goal is to hunt and kill enemy villagers so they resign.

Ivaylo 3 is blergh. 3 Khans per tribe is excessive, and you need both numbers and upgrades as well as timed attacks, and it’s very dissatisfying.

Rajendra 4 is all about pushing forward hard and fast.

Send a splinter of your army to kill the enemy king in the northeast and then raid the enemy markets and side objectives.

Keep Rajendra in the first Castle until your army has rendezvoused with the field army.

Combine Trebuchet and Siege Elephants to take down Castles quickly.

Jadwiga 4 is about running multiple sieges while also controlling a siege interceptor group against the backstabbing Teutons.

    Always.

    Be.

    Moving.

Have one set of 5 trebs sweep from the north and another set from the south.

Jadwiga 5 can be fun if you stretch the raiding for as long as possible, including taking out the southeastern enemy base.

I used the Cannon Galleons to weaken the Blue city and dropped two Castles at their doorstep.

    Bari 4.

I fucking hate this entire campaign.

Hautevilles 5 is a tribute to the classic final scenarios from the older campaigns where it’s you against the world.

    Castle push northward.

    Trade south.

    Control the seas.

    Tamerlane/Alaric/Prithviraj.

You know, it kinda feels like the missions these days require players to rush more than ever before.

If you don’t rush, the scenarios get much harder.

These darn Emirs, they’ll never leave their base as it is told when I play Roger in Sicily.

Just once the orange one went in to attack my base with his army but that was it…

Tbh the one that had me constantly restarting was Jadwiga 3 Duel of the Dukes.

I just couldn’t get the timing right and my units would get swept away by Vytautus’ counter attacks.

I think eventually the Devs tweaked the AI triggers in a patch and I finally managed to get it done on Hard.

Bari 4 and Bari 5 can be brutal.

Bari 4 needs you to be incredibly resource efficient and you basically have to lose once before you understand how to “cheat” and beat the AI triggers before they fire.

Bari 5 can get really insane if you don’t spend your resources wisely and remember to farm conversions from the enemy units with your monks.

Suryavarman 4 was stupid hard back when Cholas were just “Indians” because they would get bodied so hard before you could come to their aid.

    Now it’s much saner.

The last Attila is quite difficult on Hard as well.

I have done it before but a lot has been changed since then so I should redo it to see what it’s like.
