I’m having difficulty dealing with a civilization that relies heavily on Paladins.

They can easily attack my economy and I need to use a large number of Heavy Cavalry Archers to counter them.

What is the best approach to take in this situation?

Should I station Halberdiers in my economy and use Rams and HCAs to raid their economy?

I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

    Thank you.

Don’t let them raid your eco, you must be fully walled or force them through castles etc.

Raiding eco is the only way the paladins can win, if you can’t stop them doing that then you lose.

If you can stop them then you slowly grind them away and win.

    Definitely pikes in your base.

    The Raid with your HCA.

Hopefully the raiding will cause them to focus on thier base and not on raiding yours.

You will always want a meatshield, preferably Light Cav/Hussar since they only require food, and your HCA only require wood/gold.

Pretty much every good HCA civ has solid or great Hussar, really the only exception is Japanese.

Civs like Tatars, Mongols, Magyar, Turks, Cumans, Huns, and Berbers all have bonuses for their Hussar.

Initially in castke age and early imp raid with ur cav archers, later on raid with your hussars or light cav and not your cav archers becz later on gold becomes scarce and then u might not be able to replenish ur HCA mass ,besides hussars do a very good job of raiding and most cav Archer civs have hussars

Always put a meatshield in front of them, yes.

The only Cav Archers that dont just tickle Paladin but actually do some damage are Mangudai, Camel Archers and Magyar CA, because these 3 reach 12 damage, but even they need a meatshield against Paladins.

Send a few halbs to the back of yoor eco and leave them there and try to wall as best you can and add defensive castles

To simply put – 80HCA will lose vs 80 paladin in a straight up fight.

Attacking with paladins will either straight up slaughter the HCA, or HCA will be forced to run away.

However HCA is suppose to easier to mass (wood instead food), and can hit at range.

So the idea is to constantly harass and weaken their paladins by running away if in danger.

You should have more numbers than their paladins.

But Imperial max army battle, I would never make pure HCA vs their pure paladins.

Heave cav archers are not good counters to mass paladin.

You need monks or halbs additionally.
