Play the game in whatever way it makes you happy, be it campaigns, against the AI or multiplayer.
If you want to try multiplayer there’s a whole new layer of strategy and challenges which is really fun!
Just be ready to lose some games at first.
After every loss your opponents will be weaker until you find your place, then all games will be against similarly skilled opponents.
If you want to improve, the art of war campaign and youtube are your friends!
It’s easy to get discouraged because the AI can be so frustrating to fight with the way it can micro units and build a well blended comp to beat your units.
People in my eyes are much more forgiving, or at least make those gorgeous human errors
Just jump in and be prepared to lose ~10 games; after that you’ll be paired against people just as bad as you are and you’ll start having a blast.

I have a blast, there are soo many varied strategies so I am always learning new things.
You can also (sometimes) chat to people win or lose about how the game went as well

The game is at it’s most fun when both people are bad.

One advice: do not play in the lobby.
I repeat: do not play in the lobby.
The lobby is full of smurfs and toxic players.
Just jump right into ranked.
The name is scary, but it is just a simple way to match you against equally skilled players.
The first games might be one sided, since the game doesnt know your skill yet.
But after around 10 games you will be mostly fine.
Uh, do also forget about quick play.
Quick play is forgotten by the full player base.
No one plays it.
