MemberThe recent changes to the scenario to prevent exploiting have rendered it unplayable. I have spent a long time rebuilding houses repeatedly, while the Teutonic army dominates with advanced units. The Polish army is limited by a low pop cap and a lack of siege units, and as a result, the game feels like a Castle Age vs Post-Imperial Age match. While a difficult challenge can be enjoyable, it should not be torturous. The lack of siege weapons and being overpowered by the enemy with a large army make it a slog fest rather than a fun experience. The campaign should be winnable and enjoyable, not just winnable.

GuestI’ve done this one a few days ago on hard.
Basically you boom hard, you get to imp fast by abusing folwarks.
Defend from orange, and get as many Xbow/arbs as you can.
On the first wave you will lose your first castle, try and snipe the siege with what cav you have an stall.Remember you can use taunts to get green to send troops, leitis are no joke against teutons.
If you survive the first wave, you have enough time to kill orange, go for his TC’s and production buildings.
By the second wave your army should become arb/winged hussar.
Just snipe the siege with hussar, and kill the rest with arbs and you should be fine.I did have to try 3 times, the campaign is broken though, for instance canceling techs will not refund you the resources.

GuestIirc TWest beat it with Heavy Cavalry Archers on hard difficulty, which should still be a viable option in addition to the others which the other posters’ here mentioned.

GuestI have won it on Hard level without cheesing it and my ELO is 800 at best (haven’t played enough ranked for a rating).
I lost 2 of the 3 Castles on the very first attack.
You need all military to be Cavaliers and Winged Hussars. You need to engage TKs and Paladins under the castle but suicide your Hussars against Teuton Siege to resist each attack.
When gold runs out, trade with Vytautas and do all secondary objectives (more gold involved) between Teuton attacks. Before killing the last trade cart, tech into Arbs, buy stone walls to create a choke point (I chose the position of the 2nd gate) and build 4-5 BBT. That, with some Ranges and Stables behind to replenish forces, must be quickly built after a Teuton attack. Then create Cavaliers as a meatshield and 60 Arbs (delete vills), kill the last cart with a group of 10 Hussars and make sure to defend that choke point

GuestI have beaten it on hard recently. Far from unbeatable. You can’t rebuild walls but it’s possible to create temporary defences witb buildings and use ranged units to whittle down the army as it comes through the gate. The eco base has to be protected in a similar manner or you’ll be raided to death, but the attacks coming from there are weaker and easier to deal with.

GuestYou can win this campaign without building a housewall. I sacrificied 2 castles but won in the end, as other mentioned here, HCA was very decent in lategame.
The purpose of “hard” is that it is hard to beat.
Edit: Another hint: You can build Bombard towers if you want to (I didnt, but they’d help A LOT)

GuestReally? I haven’t had much trouble with it, though it takes a bit of doing to keep your first castle alive. But if you get through the first wave you just zerg orange down with cavaliers and the mission becomes a joke. It’s really just about figuring out the right amount of boom in the first 10 minutes to have the forces you need to keep the first area alive.
My biggest tips besides ‘boom optimally’ are to make sure you have some vils in place to repair the castle, and always go BEHIND the teuton siege with your cavalry before attacking so they kite into the castle where you can target them down with it even if you lose your cavalry instead of into their impenetrable camp. Also orange resigns when you kill their TCs, so focus those.

GuestIt is the one scenario that they actually buffed lol. You can’t do any of the strays used on hard when the DLC first came out anymore. I actually approve bc they RUINED Bayinnaung 5, Bari 4, Prithviraj 4 and even Le Loi 2! Nerfed most everything so I won’t complain. It is hard as hell but can be done. You must have to quickly take out those Orange foes asap and start the full on boom and build

GuestI actually think Duel of the Dukes on hard is more difficult or at least it certainly WAS imo. It will depend on individual skill set and preferences. The key is really to just damage units with obuchs. The heavily armored Teutonic forces need to be nerfed by your obuchs. Always include a few of them with any batch of infantry. Just have them hanging around. Remember, units touched by them do NOT REGAIN ARMOR UNTIL 100% healed, so that is a big part. Units that were previously deadly will go down quickly
