Greetings to the aoe2 community! I’ve been playing around with the Fortress mode a lot lately and I’ve been trying to use my towers and castles to fend off boars. Unfortunately, I’ve come to realize that this is not a very effective strategy. Is there any way to make the buildings less aggressive? I know this community is full of experts, so I’m counting on you to let me know if there’s an obvious solution that I’m missing. No hard feelings if you have to call me out!
I’m not sure but you can try ordering the building to attack something else, even if it’s out of range? For example, scout enemy base, click your Tower to attack the boar and before killing it command the Tower to attack an enemy building in fog of war at the other side of the map. Maybe since buildings don’t attack animals naturally, the new attack command will overwrite the old one over an animal even if the objective is out of range idk
Side question: is the ethiopian raid with shotels a legitimate strat (despite the existing castles and towers)?

I don’t think there is here unless you time the building to shoot only the needed amount of volleys before the boar is out of range
I think it would be good if there was such a thing. Especially though for if you shoot the boar with your TC and after ungarrisoning you have to re-garrison an injured vill, the TC will shoot again, which I think it shouldn’t.
I haven’t played for a while though, don’t know if this was changed in the meantime….
I think that the only way to de-agro it is garrisoning or ungarrisoning a villager. I’m not sure, though. Anyway it requires much more micro than its worth it, and you should learn how to weaken them with the TC
Shotels can be good for raiding but I wouldn’t go FC shotels
