Total Rush Counting

    Greetings everyone!

I’ve been playing AOE 2 DE’s ranked 1v1 since the holidays and it has been a great experience.

I have dropped to around 600 ELO and have been steadily climbing up since then, but I have hit a plateau at around 900 ELO because of this pesky TC rush.

It appears that some civilizations let you build a second TC in the feudal/dark ages and this has been causing me trouble as I usually go for a fast castle strategy, which leaves me vulnerable in the early game.

Opponents are able to place a TC in front of mine at around 10 minutes into the game and take control of the match.

What can I do to counter this strategy?

Don’t even try palisade around your tc, won’t work.

Deal with it like this, let him do his tc and destroy yours, don’t repair and don’t farm around your tc.

Go feudal as soon as you can, definitely no fast castle here.

In feudal age make archers, if you have gold and wood close together, there is your new TC spot.

With archers you punish his villagers, at this point you can start farming around the new TC.

You will be first to castle by far, now one knight to kill the vils at his start base and one mangonel to deal with his TC and that’s gg.

Douche only works when you try to repair and fight with your own TC because you end up with no wood to build a new one

Cubans are the only civ that allow a second TC before the castle age however it has twice the build time of a normal TC (Sicilians build TCs/castles faster and Spanish build all buildings faster)

However if you have no TCs you’re able to build a new TC at any age (except in some campaigns).

So there’s also the chance that the opponent deleted their TC and are rebuilding next to you (common with Persians as they have 2x the health their TCs)

In these situations you want to leverage the time spent building the TC as “missed eco” time for those villagers (can’t gather if building).

If you have army you can attack their villagers to disrupt the build and garrison your TC with archers or villagers to poke villagers or get damage in the foundation which the enemy will need to start repairing before you

If it is cumans and a feudal second TC then you *should* be nearly at castle age or clicking up to castle.

In this case you just keep your TC alive until you’re up, get a second TC of your won somewhere safe then start to push with your much strong knights/monk/siege/archers

If it’s not cumans, they’ll have eco villagers getting berries and wood at their base which can be sniped easily, if it is cumans you’ll likely want to push back their 2nd TC and reclaim momentum

Kill as many vills as you can as they’re building the TC

Don’t lose any vill repairing your TC (Don’t repair your TC at all)

Make sure you have 275Wood in the bank (and 100 Stone)

    Don’t stop vill production

If you lose your TC, build another one on a safe location

Small walls are annoying for TC droppers and large walls prevent enemy vills from walking through your base

Happy idea: If you see them coming, garrison all your TC surrounding vills inside and attack the enemy TC foundation.

You may be able to kill it if you’re lucky.

If you see its HP going up, aim for the vills instead.

There’s a controversial opinion about advancing to Feudal Age.

I think that, if you’ve got the res, you should, but make sure to click when your TC is hardly damaged, because if you lose it, you won’t lose the res, but you’ll lose the time you could have been making vills.

When you’ve got the numbers, make sure to disrupt his wood income, that’s what keeps his attack going!

For that, use any military or vills you could spare (but not too few or you’ll lose them)

An easy way to prevent a TC drop is by placing houses around your TC so the enemy doesnt have space to build it close enough to be in range of yours.

He would have to destroy the houses first which can buy you alot of time.

    >It seems there are certain civilizations that allow you to build a second TC in the feudal/dark ages.

Cumans can build a 2nd TC in Feudal Age – it builds slower than a Castle Age one.

Apart from that, Persians are infamous for years for their douche.

The best counter is placing random palisades around your TC area so your TC won’t be in range.

If the douche still is succesful, continue to play as normal and rebuild in a safe location

Let your Town Center go down and rebuild it somewhere else.

Do not advance to the Feudal Age until you are no longer tight on resources.

You need to get map control with army.

Try a drush or MAA rush into archers, or go scout pressure.

Getting good at MAA into archers will take you above 1k.

    Early aggression really wrecks LELs
