Too Many Late-Game Resources – Any Advice for Beginners?

As a newcomer to this game, I am having some success in the early to mid stages, but when I reach the mid to late game, I find myself struggling to manage my resources (such as wood, if I am playing as a knight spammer).

Is the solution to build more stables?

Additionally, I am having difficulty managing my villagers late game due to a lack of resources and mines becoming exhausted.

Should I start sending villagers to the front line to construct castles and additional stables?

I would greatly appreciate any advice or tips.

I am eager to learn as much as I can about this amazing game as I realize now that I missed out on a lot when I was younger.

It’s not a huge issue having excess wood in late game.

Usually, you ask yourself the following

Do you have enough farms to sustain knight production?

    Enough stables?

In team games you can set up trade with markets

Did you get your eco upgrades

Typically for late game cav civs, you can go about 70 farms, 35 lumberjacks, 30-40 gold miners/trade carts to sustain knight line production.

I’m no math expert but typically you can sustain about 10-15 stables with this build

It’s fine having excess wood, gold, stone in late game but not early game.

Use you food as much as you can and get upgrades.

Make sure you always try to be 200 pop (or your max pop)

Having excess wood isn’t uncommon while going for cavalry, try to spend it so you have more farmers/miners than lumberjacks while going cavalry, as long as you don’t have idle stables having extra wood isn’t bad.

Just remember that unless you’re using a unit that costs wood in your army you should have less lumberjacks than farmers.

    Depends on your comp.

In your example, you would want 70-80 farms in the late game, assuming you’ll transition to hussar later on.

A total vil count of 120-130 is fine.

In general, if you’re floating resources and aren’t at 200 pop, you’re wasting potential.

You need to fix it by more production buildings or better allocation in case you’re running short on one particular resource and floating another.

It’s also a good idea to be the first one to sell wood and food and bottom out the market in the late game when mines run out.

    Basically yes.

If you have spare resources, it’s usually good to find ways to spend it on.

More Stables is a good option if you have the spare food to use them.

Also more farms if you don’t have enough food. (And just the general ‘get to 200 pop imp’ buildup).
