Witnessing TheViper’s skilled control of his units in the Unus Imperium tournament and Nations Cup qualifier is a treat – they are directed to the closest enemy and then use their area of effect abilities to eliminate them.

It is amazing to see how he can make any units seem powerful.

    Archers are ranged swordsmen.

And they cost wood which allows for food to be saved giving more flexibility elsewhere.

Especially great with free lumber upgrades.

    Nice conceptual inversion.

Not weak conqs but strong lancers.

Albeit they still are vulnerable to skirms and require a castle to build, two traits of conqs that steppies don’t share.

    Not sure if I agree.

The castle requirement is just too great for Arambai to be compared to a stable raiding unit.

Also they don’t break through walls as fast.

Even if they are better steppe lancers, they are still also weak conqs.

I’d still prefer conqs in most situations, but wood/gold is easier to get than food/gold early castle.

Arambai become stronger as the sizes of armies become larger.

They are a shell of what they used to be though, but the recent buffs have made them quite a bit better.

A lot of arambai are just low damage siege onagers and I’m just a less hairy ape.

I watched that game with viper in the nation’s cup.

Can anyone tell me why he decided to stop villager production?

I think he only had 3 villagers on food by the end of the game.

And IIRC I think his max pop was only around 50.

In big numbers they’re great, but the same could be said of a any unit.

Problem is they’re hard to mass and relatively frail before that critical mass.
