Strategy for Age of Empires II on PlayStation 2

Does anyone have any advice on how to best approach playing Age of Empires II for the PlayStation 2 version?
It appears the main difference is the population limit, so I’m curious to hear any strategies that might help me succeed.
As that one is based on Age of Kings minus the Teuton Deathstar and population being limited to 100 (1-3 players) or 75 (4 players) , every common strategy still should work.
