Revalenz-
GuestI think it was really disrespectful of Hera to do that in a decider game.
It’s almost like feeling he was not able to win in a different way, and just having to use a broken tech.

GuestAgreed.
wasted my weekend following this tournament.

GuestI don’t recall anyone using slavs or Celts.
These civ’s need some buff.

GuestI would be more worried about how some of these maps can be so unfair to one player.
That is awful.
It forces players to questionable decisions.

GuestI think it just needs a nerf; we had 8 amazing meta games before that.
We had two super dramatic moments this tournament and both of them involved the revolution.
It took pros a while to figure out that it is op.
But I do think it is particularly op on hippo arena with all the time and space.
It’s not like there was a gentlemen’s agreement at red bull not to use it then suddenly they decide to use it here.
Pros before thought it was stupid, not op.
I think it is important to have stuff that breaks up the meta.
Honestly it is not the only way in the game to get to 150 army.
Maybe we will see meta involve dropping to 50 vills or less to get a power spike more often.
I am certainly going to try that with a bunch of civs now

GuestI think it will be way more memorable then many other finals.

GuestIt was entertaining and it’s a statement too, Hera himself said it needs to be removed from the game.

GuestI actually was thoroughly entertained by the game.
Liereyy had the chance to ban it and didn’t.
We’ve had S-Tier elimination games decided by Portugese Feitoria plenty of times before, and at least Flemish Revolution is a visually hilarious way to end a series.

GuestI disagree it had me on the edge of my seat.
March 23, 2023 at 11:16 pm #22777HappyLofi
GuestLiereyy should have banned it.
Also, Liereyy did it twice before so all is fair.
You also can’t say Hera didn’t make it interesting.
He had 9 TCs in preparation to use it.
Insane game.
GGWP to both players.
Tech definitely needs removing or totally reworking though.

GuestHera played it perfectly
Hera also said said in the interview that it has to be ‘not nerfed, removed’March 23, 2023 at 11:16 pm #22779ticktocktoe
GuestThought the ending was awesome.
Going with a meme strat was a balsy move imo.
To each their own I guess.

GuestAs others have pointed out, Liereyy was at a civ disadvantage since he didn’t have a good Arena civ aside from Portuguese which he had already used and hadn’t banned, sniped, or picked Burgundians in the draft.
Hera boomed freely, got all the upgrades for his militia, built up tons of siege, banked resources for a re-boom, and then spent 1850 resources on Revolution.
Since those resources weren’t going into defense, Liereyy had a window to apply pressure, but he didn’t (though Byzantines would struggle to do so).
I believe that measured, incremental nerfs are much better for the game than reactionary overhauls and tech removals.
Tweaking a civ based on available data, checking the data after the tweaks, and then revisiting the changes should be the process.
As Burgundians currently exist, I don’t think a massive overhaul is at all necessary based on the data but a tweak to the civ is reasonable.
It’s probably an unpopular opinion, but aside from the final game showing the power of a free boom into Revolution, I don’t think we saw Flemish Revolution being an oppressive tech in this tourny.
As I’ve pointed out [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/11uyrsf/comment/jcsq1we/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3), the games prior to the final game don’t exactly demonstrate the tech’s dominance since one is an early resignation after failing to prepare at all for a revolution and two are against Viper’s Bengali trash army on Fortified Clearing while the Burgundians player was significantly ahead and in a good position to win without the Revolution anyways.
As the Burgundians exist now and have been played recently on the ladder, there are plenty of top Arena civs that are able to compete with them and have [50% win rates or better](https://www.aoepulse.com/advanced?id=d3a59613-e539-41c5-b02f-a5a61502b824) over the past few patches, so the civ hasn’t been undefeatable on the ladder.
If the Revolution is too strong as an opening and not vulnerable enough to stone defenses or anti-infantry units, then it should be nerfed again as it has been in the past when the cost was increased and Flemish Militia had their stats decreased slightly.
Good incremental nerfs would be increasing the price again (maybe scaling it based on the number of villagers like Spies) or decreasing the Flemish Militia’s stats again so that there is a larger window to punish the boom-into-Revolution play and countering it is more feasible.
Flemish Militia being [closer to a Champion than a Halberdier](https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Flemish_Militia) in terms of stats is probably too much.
I’m expecting the devs to yield to community sentiment regarding the tech and at least nerf it, but I’d be a bit sad to see such a unique tech be entirely removed from the game.
More variety makes the game more interesting to play and watch.

GuestIt was epic idk what you’re on.

GuestThis one ain’t it.
That was much more exciting of an end than a 2 hour trash spam arena game.
Doubly so considering Larry used that tech to beat Hera earlier in the tourney.
