In October 2022, it was announced that the Return of Rome would be coming to Age of Empires 2.

This expansion focuses on Age 1 content, with the potential to have Age 2 quality of life improvements.

There are two possible dates for the release of the expansion: March 15th, the day Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 AD, and April 21st, the day Rome was founded by Romulus in 753 BC.

If the release date is announced two weeks prior to the release, like it was with the Dynasties of India expansion, the latter date would make more sense, as the announcement would be on April 7th.

On that day in history, Attila captured Metz, which is depicted in the fourth mission of Attila’s campaign.

The West Romans make a brief appearance in this mission after the Town Center of Orléans is destroyed.

This seems large enough there would be a longer marketing campaign.

So I’m thinking later than April unless details are announced soon.

Big question is if it includes Western Romans in the AoE2 civ set.

That would be super popular even if they aren’t particularly good.

March does feel like the likely date, if they are still keeping to their released schedule anyway.

    So the 15th wouldn’t be a stretch.
