Play Highland, stonewall the river crossings, put up a castle and 3-4 towers on each. Max garrison with arbs. Watch the AI suicide all of its troops into your swamp gauntlet until you get bored and put it out of its misery.
My town has one (1) town center (why would a village have multiple “centers” – that doesn’t make any sense at all) that is surrounded on all sides by streets, a residential area comprising numerous blocks of 2X6 houses, a commercial area with a market and blacksmith, a farming area, and an industrial area with one (1) barracks and either one (1) stable or one (1) archery range, all of which is surrounded by a rectangular stone wall with one (1) gate. The town population is approximately 30, plus a similar number of military units, consisting primarily of champions (the best unit, for sure) during the game’s second hour of play, at which point I’m making preparations to leave my town for the first time accompanied by a ram, along with a monk for healing that is being guarded by the champions in box formation. They will all die a fiery death 10 minutes later (gg), and I will ponder how I’ll ever beat that insane moderate AI. Perhaps next time, I’ll bring several archers or a knight with me

I play the last William Wallace mission and boom until I have all techs and a huge army and then completely destroy red and feel like a pro in this game.
