You know what, thank you for saying this.
It’s definitely a trait of a lot of AOE players (myself NOT included).
This is the only video game forum I’ve seen people doing pseudo calculus to determine if I should make one more pike at this exact millisecond
Some of the graphs people make on here look like weeks worth of work.
It’s insane
Can’t urge you enough to try ranked!
You (may) get crushed the first 10-15 games but then its really really fun, people will be at your skill level and it gets very interesting, you have the time you need to build up and so on
So, long story short, there are people who aren’t good at the game and still play ranked.
But when playing ranked you start at 1000 elo, which is average skill score, and you’ll probably have to play a dozen or so games against stronger people until your elo drops enough when you start getting matched regularly with people that you have reasonable chance of beating.
See Low Elo Legends to see examples.
But ranked isn’t the only way to play multiplayer, there’s also the lobby.
Which is probably chaotic but that way you can play other things than 1v1 or ordinary team games.
FFA, Diplomacy games, custom maps and all that.
I know, it’s shocking but AoE2 actually offers a lot of ways to be played.
Of course ideally is to do this with friends but it can be a real damn pain to gather that many people you know at the same time.
you will probably be at home around 200-500elo in aoe2
just keep playing until you reach your true elo and you will find similar players
