Seeking Assistance With Moving Portuguese FC to UU on Sealed Maps

    Hello everyone, I’m wondering what the best way to handle a Portuguese Fast Castle (FC) with Organ Gun strategy is.

    My instinct is to deny their stone with an early aggression, but this is difficult to do on maps like Arena or Hideout.

    They usually build a castle at home and start massing 6-7 Organ Guns, then come knocking on my door.

    I had a few Mangonels waiting, but the trades weren’t really in my favor.

    Are knights any better or is the way to go to use monks?

    I’m honestly at a loss.

    What is the best way to counter this Castle Age deathball of Organ Guns?

    My Elo is around 13xx-14xx.

    It looks like the best way to deal with their Castle Age push is to use Redemption Monks or build a castle of my own.

    If I can deny their stone with a rush, that would be ideal, but this seems to be map-dependent.

    Slowing down the push with Guard Tower defense or Mangonel micro is probably the most economical option for civilizations without Redemption Monks.

    I’ll keep all this in mind.

    Redemptive monks is the best counter if portuguese make castle at home.

    If your civ doesn’t have that you can go ham with mangonels (you need roughly 1 mango per 2 organ guns, at the very least 1 per 3 but that can get very dicey already), guard tower defense or defensive castle.

    I’d probably go for army because if you make defensive castle they’ll get the relics secure forward position with offensive castle and go fast imp.

    If you add tcs you’ll die to monk treb.

    If you go 1 tc imp you’ll probably die to feitoria advantage in the long run.

    Since that game in TTL (Draken vs Lierry I think) I have tried 23 pop fc with Portuguese a bunch of times.

    I only lost once in that span to a Bulgarian trush into Kreposts.

    Same Elo as you.

    Other than that idk how it is stopped.

    What can Turks do against Portuguese these days, I haven’t played the match up yet

    Here is the plan, you also rush to castle and make rams filled with pikemen or swordsmen, depending with what they are using to defend the organ guns, the rams can easily destroy them because they get speed and damage (only for buildings, so you should also focus a forward castle) bonus for garrrisoned units and make mangos or skirmichers if they make archers/skirmiches against your infantry, the rams will tank you infantry because he will need a lot of UU to one shot one ram, but if they do, they will have to also focus on the infantry, its a mutual meat shield but if you do it, you MUST get to imperial to get the other two ram upgrades, after that it will be only loss if he keeps making organ guns.

    PD: I ran some experiments, and:

    Battering ram: 2 hits / UU is faster than full ram
    Capped ram: 2 hits /UU is same speed as full ram
    Siege ram: One shot for not elite / 2 for elite, but the elite only lives with 3 hp, so even skirmichers or a pikeman from a ram can kill it / ram is faster than the UU.

    I would just say to anticipate it, and get a castle up as soon as they do.

    22+2 FC into triple monasteries.

    If they go for fwd castle you should have 3 monks out by the time they drop the castle.

    Convert 3 vills and get them to fight other vills.

    You should get your next three monks in time to stop the rest of the vills.

    If they build the castle at home you’ll have plenty of time to snatch the relics and get Redemption before they start threatening your base.

    If they are playing funny buggers and go scout meta you will have a mass of monks before they have a mass of light cav.

    Will depend on you monk micro how you go with the relic war.

    If you are a good knight civ, they work well too.

    Id do whatever my civ did best out of knights, mangonels, or monks.

    And the civs that dont do any of those 3 things well typically have great ecos like Vikings which means you can sort of pick what you do best.

    From what i ve seen Turks are the best at it.

    LC for map control so he cant build the castle forward.

    Get a few relics, second tc on stone so you can drop defensive castle when he builds his second in front of your base.

    Then its just a race to imp where free chemistry and free hussar should be enaugh to win for you.

    Can easily backfire though, you loose some bbc to conversions and it gets though.

    Could maybe try bengalis becuse their monks are tanky and siege elephants should be able to kill the castle since they are stronger than normal rams.

    Other than that trush could work, but with the berris buff they got, they are up fast enught that they can just drop a tower and prevent you from getting in.

    I asked the same question few days ago.

    One suggested me to trush.

    Actually it worked.

    Redemption monks.

    Onagers only works if there are few organ guns.

    If you make a defensive castle porto player will kill your pocket player if its a team game.

    Also Portuguese player up time is hard to compete.

    Only way to stop this is up super early and trush.
