I am completely unfamiliar with the game of Nomad and only know the basics of having two Town Center builders and one Fisherman.

I understand that I need to build Town Centers as soon as possible, however I have no clue what my build times should be or what they could tell me about my adversary.

    What are the usual strategies?

Should I be sending out scouts?

    Should I be building towers?

Yes, you start with 2 TC Vils and a fisherman.

Than you start collecting wood until you can make a fishing ship, switching some/all vills to food as soon as you need to keep your TC working.

Getting early loom is fine if it means you can minimize your dock idle time, as it allows for longer boar lures.

Your strategy after that depends on civ matchup and rush distance, both between TCs and docks.

    Most common starts include:

FC into castle drop/UU: Basically always possible if your TCs aren’t super close and you have a stone you can safely mine.

Especially strong with civs like Spanish and Turks who have UU that are powerful in small numbers

Fast feudal into water play: Good when you have a short rush distance between docks.

Make a second dock on your way to feudal.

Make sure to have enough Vils on wood and gold to constantly produce galleys or fire galleys from two docks.

Kill opponents fish but make sure not to overinvest into water when they don’t fight back.

You can go up bit later with this strat and defend water instead of attacking in order to fast castle off of it.

Fast feudal into scouts: Kills castle drops and can pressure opponents who can’t secure gold and/or stone with their TC.

Don’t stay feudal too long tho.

Fast castle into X : stuff like knights, siege/monk, or even crossbows can work depending on civ matchup.

Super fast feudal into towers: Only good with super short rush distance.

Just to add to the other comments, Hera made a basic and interesting nomad start tutorial.

Might be helpful to some reading this thread.

    I’m around 900 elo.

I don’t think towers are that good because the map is so resource rich, I feel like it is easy to get another wood line or gold line and out produce the tower rusher.

    My two cents.

Guide for early dark age macro:
2 villagers build tc asap next to woodline.

No need to scout for optimal location because nowadays there is always food nearby in nomad.
1 villager builds dock next to shore fish.

Try to get the dock to at least decent position.

    Scout with sheeps.

Try to find enemy dock in the shoreline and to find resources (especially boars) near tc.

Typically 4th or 5th villager lures first boar.

After this your main goal is to keep both villager and fishing ship production up.

After this the decisions depends on the strategy.

    2->TC 1->dock.

The dock vill goes fishing, the TC vills go to wood.

When you have 4 on wood, the next guy lures a boar.

with a civ like Persians, Malians or Lithuanians this works perfectly, without any early bonus you might already research loom here inbetween or lure the boar even half a villager or a full villager earlier.

Then you put 3 on that boar and the rest into wood again and dont forget the house here immediately.

The goal now is to reach 6 on wood to keep up the fishing ship production, everything else goes into food.

The 2 most common “BOs” are now

    1.

    FC Castle Drop.

Here you wanna reach like 20 vills + 6/7 fishing ships in Dark Age and have like 2 boars lured probably.

The last 3 vills in Dark Age go to stone, the 2 before that go to gold.

Then you market blacksmith and click up.

Due to you needing a Mill for the Market, you could easily mill a deer patch in Dark Age.

After you clicked up, you might wanna move 1-2 more to stone.

Then you hit castle age and either defensive castle into UU raids, or you might wanna castle drop your opponent when you see that you could hurt him with that.

At like 1400+ elo good castle age timings for that are like 16:30, but 17:00 is still fine imo.

When things go perfectly with Malians, I sometimes reach 15:30 or 16:00 but thats really really really fast.

I always aim for 16:30 and the more things were going on in Dark Age I sometimes just hit 17:00.
    2.

    fast galleys.

Here you probably wanna click Feudal Age with like 17 vills to be really fast, no Mill in Dark Age allowed.

After you clicked Feudal Age, you move everything to wood except for 2-3 gold miners.

The dock vill builds a 2nd dock, and maybe even a 3rd.

In Feudal Age you pump out (fire) galleys and prioritize killing fishing ships.

your dock vill repairs almost killed galleys.

Dont over-invest. 6-9 galleys is usually what I aim for.

inbetween you mill a deer patch, then market blacksmith and if macro’ed that well, you could easily still reach sub20 castle age timings.

Spanish FC into conqs is the optimal strategy.
