The other day, I had the idea that introducing a water-based unit with an attack bonus against fire ships but weak against galleys would offer a trash unit option and give players a reason to open galleys in the Feudal Age.
Additionally, the current water meta is quite dull, so it would be nice if villagers could fight back when attacked by fishing boats.
Furthermore, galley dancing was more interesting than fire ships, so it would be great to return to the days of opening galleys.
Fire ships will still be seen in Feudal Age play because they can still effectively kill galleys, but they will no longer be cost-effective against fishing boats.
To further improve the viability of fishing boats, the gillnets upgrade could be changed to increase their attack power, and it could be renamed to something else like Fish Picard, which seems like an appropriate name given its reference to medieval ships.
Makes sense to me from a nomad perspective – would add a bit more variety to the fishing ships to fire ships game start.
At the moment one fireship can clear out the whole fishing fleet, so could be a case of 2-4 could fight off a fire ship, in the same way a group of villagers can murder a scout or single maa.
