From 1100-1300 Elo, there is little to no variation in strategies used.
Tower rushing and archers in the Feudal Age, followed by a late transition to Castle Age, is the norm.
This strategy is so powerful that it often disrupts build orders that players have come to prefer.
Furthermore, it’s so repetitive that it can be quite boring.
The Polish civilization is also a common choice, and despite the nerf, it continues to be successful.
It’s not clear what could be done to change this meta, as Arena walls have already been buffed.
All in all, I really don’t like the way the game has evolved in this Elo range.
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7626HernitorrincoGuestI played as poles in arena a few days ago and I didn’t know this was a thing.
I won with another strategy.
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7627_Haran_GuestI’m clown and I mained poles for a bit and i’ve never knew about this strategy.
I’ve never saw anyone do it either, weird
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7628alpinetrooperGuestnever encountered that particular strategy so far.
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7629DocSanchezAOE2GuestWall across the map in Dark Age so they can’t trush you!
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7630HaslorGuestA tower rush on arena is objectively a really weak strategy.
I mean I’ve lost to it too, but a straight 22/3+2 FC into mangonels is usually great opening to counter it.
All you need is a few key small walls to stop the trush because they usually don’t bring man at arms so there is very little actual threat to lose vils.
Then you just add tcs much sooner and outboom him.
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7631medievalrevivalGuestI have never encountered this strategy one time, nor have I ever used at one time as the Poles.
And I main Arena.
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7632adquenGuestIt’s one of the few Feudal strats you can successfully pull off an Arena.
Which I like, because I don’t like Arena, but sometimes it’s the least bad of the several bad maps in the pool and then I can at least do this to get a quick game (win or lose).
And it’s definitely less powerful than the new Porto shit or Turks into Janis.
So I think it’s fine power-wise.
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7633SheAllRiledUpGuestTower rush on arena?
Never seen that
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7634Sufficient_TraditionGuestAs Viper says, Arena games are decided before the game starts.
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7635MarionberryCool7176GuestI promise you, by the end of 2025 devs will fix Poles.
That’s always the case with fan-favorite civs.
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7636MtG-CrashGuestI have never seen Poles doing archers in Feudal Age on Arena 11
I have played like ~30-40 2v2 Arena games at 1300-1500 TG Elo with Poles and always did something else. And the opposing Poles I faced either Trushed into Boom, Trushed into Szlachta Knights, or Scouts into Boomed.
Trush into adaption is pretty viable with Poles, especially in TGs because you can dictate the pacing of the game with that, but I personally like their forward castle drop into quick imp the most.
But you’d need a tight BO for that.
At the end of the day, I’d actually argue that Poles is quite hard to predict what exactly they’re gonna do.
But Trush into adaption seems to be the most common from what I have seen.
They’re just dragging you down and tryna bind you to Feudal Age / low eco Castle Age, because that’s where they can cheat with their farm bonus.
When they manage to drag you into Feudal Age, you have already lost, because while you’re struggling they’re cheating on Horse Collar Farms.
Best way to beat that is to FC and just delay their trush, and then siege back their towers and then go over and try to break into their Arena.
When you FC, you should kinda manage to hit like 14:30-15:30 timing, and the Poles player only hits Castle Age at like minute 19/20, so you have a time window, but its tight and you need to know what you’re doing, and thats the primary advantage of Poles I think.
They force their game onto you, and most people below 1k5 just cant adapt to opponents stuff, they just need to be able to somewhat execute their own BO.
And they will straight up lose if that doesnt exactly help.
February 1, 2023 at 2:18 pm #7637UmdeuterGuestI’ll have a guess: this happened to you 3 times in 70 games and two of these were variations which were not even exactly that and in 5 other games where you faced poles they did something else
if that’s very far off, sorry about that
