No matter how hard I try, I cannot progress very far in the Joan of Arc missions called “A Perfect Martyr”.

It’s extremely frustrating and I refuse to use cheats.

I keep getting defeated when attempting to take control of the Burgundian town.

I played on conquerors so my memory might be a bit off or might had a few changes in definitive.

Destroy burgundy, should be an easy feat, and place a TC.

Don’t take too long to destroy orange, their base don’t have much defense, they don’t create archers AFAIK, just cavalier.

Monks, pikes and BBC should do the job.

After that turtle like crazy, the British should start to attack at this point.

Tip: there’s a narrow path in the river between you and the English.

Walling should buy you some time.

Now, there are two ways of finishing this map.

First you can try to slow grind the English.

This will take forever so go for a trash war if you want to.

Another way is to save it, micro like hell and get that trade cart on the hill.

You’ll have to destroy a gate or two so do that first (sneaky trebs is the way to go).

Once destroyed, *save your game* and go for it, a mass of light cav (preferably the whole pop) and your trade cart going for that goddamn hill.

This is how I beat the hard difficulty, but I think the first phase is roughly the same.

The first Burgandian base can be tricky since all throwing axemen are replaced with coustilliers after the DLC.

Do not engage with them head-on.

Use archers to lure them from the walls (by hitting the wall) and retreat to the riverside; the enemy won’t go back.

Use cavalries to target down their onagers and monks first, and they are strong enough to act as the meatshield for your archers and hand cannoneers.

After the Burgandian forces are dealt with, you can start to tear down their TC and castle.

You might still need several tries.

Just hit and run with your ranged units first and do not start the battle near the enemy base.

After the first phase, you’ll get resources after destroying the enemy TC and castle.

The Britons will attack with longbows and trebs soon, and the orange has cavaliers and rams.

Don’t build your TC at the Burgandian base, just go to the north where the orange base is located (beware not to trigger the British forces on the other side of the river).

It has a walled base and a castle, so use your siege to take them down.

The orange at this point won’t have many cavaliers, so they are easy to deal with.

After defeating the orange, build your base there, and then you can take your time; the longbowmen and trebs are powerless before your cavalries.

Build your castle on the high ground for defense.

The Burgandian’s main base is at the south and only has infantries and monks.

You can just leave them alone.

The British can build cannon galleon, but their cannot balls can only hit the southern end of your base.

    Just ignore them.

I didn’t take the regular route of crossing the river in the middle of the map; there’s a river by the high ground, so I just build a dock and transport my forces to the other side.

Attack the flank of their base and gradually push to take down the bombard towers.

After the flagged area is cleared, bring your cart with some escort there, and you’ll win.

Edit: not sure if you’re playing on PC or console.

If you’re on pc, use ctrl + number to group your units so that you can select them by pressing the number on your keyboard, making them easier to control.

I always separate different types of units into different groups.

I don’t know how the console works.
